What are your gaming pet peeves?

Nah, it's quite popular in certain circles. I wouldn't be paying for it at that price though, and I think that's what's partly driving people away.

What about hype?

Remember the late 90s "photo realism" was hyped so much for what games would be like.

Are we there yet?

I'd say UE5 is getting us in that direction. The environments that have been created with that have been realistic enough to fool people into thinking they were real places.

Lack of quicksaves. I have a life, I have stuff to do. I can't often guarantee I've got an hour or so to play through a level. I want to press F5 and then go back later, press F9 and pick up exactly where I left off.

A lot of games made now seem to have forgotten about that function.

I mean how hard is it to implement a quick save feature that can be invoked at any point in the game, and not specific points in the game.

Timed missions in general are one of my pet peeves as with any kind of escort mission

So much both of these. Especially escort missions. Hate them with a passion. NPCs try to wander off... sometimes just to get killed. :guffaw:

To branch a little bit off of timed missions, I hate timed mini games. They can become tedious and not fun after awhile.

Points of no return. Adds in another layer of annoyance to a game. Just making sure that you get everything in an area before moving forward. GoldenSun Dark Dawn... I'm looking at you. :shifty:

Lack of cloud saving. Pokemon games are notorious for this. Using the excuse of hackers and cloners. Hello... they're always going to do this. No excuse to put people's games at risk because other people are doing stuff you don't like. Pokemon Home is ok, but it doesn't replace the actual save files and the history that comes along with them.

Stealth missions. Not a fan of them.

I think that had gone by the wayside by the time console games really took over. Used to be you'd have PC games developed and then ported over or developed in parallel, but now seems to be the other way around. Of course, it doesn't help that console games long-used predetermined savepoints. It's only been within the last two console generations that have had games allowing you to save anywhere. And to have quicksaves, you have to allow to save anywhere, which has been a major roadblock with most console games.

I don't know why. It's not a game breaking feature.

No, but consider that many console games are designed around savepoints, some manual, some automatic. It might require more thought into allowing saving anywhere in their game design. Certain games on console now bring up a dialogue box to the saves. In the past, this wasn't done because everything was expected per the design. Being able to save anywhere adds complexity to the design aspect.

Oh and QTEs... Yes. Shenmue II is practically a QTEfest. Less is more in this case.

I hate multiplayer shoehorned into everything.

I truly despise games that don't have difficulty sliders. There is literally no reason why you can't have an "easy" mode.

I also despise games that don't let you save whenever you want. I have a life outside of the game, I can't always spend the time to go find a save point when I might need to leave the game. Sometimes I have a finite amount of time to play and if that time ends and there's no save point... well screw me then I guess?

A pet peeve I have lies more with gamers. There are often just unrealistic expectations, or people get crazy up in arms over some random, fairly minor issue. Not every game is going to be an absolute masterpiece. It's ok for a game to just be good. I'm particularly aggro over Star Wars Outlaws, which is a good, solid, fun game... but because "the character is ugly" and the fact that's not the best game to ever been released ever, it's getting absolutely killed. The game is like, a solid 7, which is totally fine. I also look back at something like Mass Effect Andromeda, another good, solid game that got lynched over some kind of bad facial animations and not being the gaming equivalent of the second coming of Christ.
