What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Maybe the holodeck technology existed before TNG, but holodecks were rare, so the technology was not known to the general public first hand, but only to few privileged people who worked/lived in certain places? That could explain the awe and surprise some of the characters displayed in TNG season one.

I like that theory. I'll try to expand upon it:

Maybe Galaxy class vessels were the first Federation ships to have holodecks, as known in the TNG era. Before that vessels were smaller and not geared as a large family vessel, and such power-drawing entertainment was probably considered wasteful of resources. Maybe before hand lesser advanced holodecks were on very select vessels (long-term deep space missions where entertainment was more of a consideration), diplomatic (diplomatic-assigned) vessels, etc. And aside from the, maybe just on Starbases at some point (though maybe not all of them).

Over time they came to be liked, more power efficient vessels came into the fleet, and a roll out to more classes began.

Maybe some characters simply had never encountered a holodeck as sophisticated as this before. Maybe before hand it was vacations to other worlds, Starbase, and holographic projections (like barely ever seen in TNG). Riker did seem to be amazed at how real it was, the smells, etc. Remember, also in TNG we know replicators never really give food the special touch that a human making it does (that was even in Voyager, as I recall), so there is precedent for tech' not being as advanced as we think it should be.

Reactions: Sim
Or maybe the Insectoids. They weren't exactly all about hugs, either.

Yeah they were grumpybums too.. I wonder how they all got along post Enterprise and which joined the Federation

I like this fan take.

Would have been hilarious had they edited that to have the plane flying past a window and people waving

We know from Daniels that at least some Xindi were in Starfleet by the 26th century. And in the 2380s in PRO we see Xindi-Reptillians working as security at a Federation port or Starbase somewhere.

I can see them rebooting TNG but not DS9. But I see them also picking characters from Voyager and DS9 and using them in other places. If they did a TNG reboot I wouldn't be shocked if Seven of Nine was now a member of the crew.

I have probably said these before:

1) The "Faith of the Heart" title sequence for Enterprise is good.

2) "Insurrection" in an enjoyable movie.

3) Although it does not bother me, I can see how some of the gore/cursing/adult content on the newer shows could be problematic for some (DISCO, PIC, LD).

4) I am rewatching ENT S1, and am thru the first 2 discs (9 episodes), and it is WAY better than I remember. Despite the DeCon chamber. A nice, well thought out arc thru the first 8 episodes on the Earth/Vulcan attitides with Archer/Tripp/T'Pol being the main drivers. "The Andorian Incident" and "Broken Bow" I remember liking initially. But "Fight or Flight," "Unexpected," "Breaking the Ice," and "Civilization" were all better than I remember. The latter being where it appears everyone is finally rowing together.

I agree with all of that... except the first point.

Terrible song. BUT... the images used throughout are perfect. Every time I watch ENT, I either fast forward the theme or I mute it and watch the images.
