There was a challenge to see if anyone could make out titles/authors of books in the Columbine High School library from the infamous Harris and Klebold death photos. I gave it a try. I identified enough to learn that the library simply alphabetized everything by author's last name. For example, the first book that I identified was A Century of Science Fiction, edited by Damon Knight. A few books away was Darkness at Noon, by Arthur Koestler. My test is generally this: If you're putting a book or a movie on the shelf at the library or the video store, where do you put it. I have yet to see Star Wars or Star Trek put anywhere other than science fiction.
Probably both.Harlan was must-see-TV for my family when he was on Tom Snyder's old late night talk shows. I even find him hilarious at times and very sharp and perceptive about the worlds of literature and television, but yeah, he's an acquired taste and in real life he'd probably require someone of equal grumpiness or from his generation to really get along with him.![]()
Hey, at least TGT (to the best of my knowledge, anyway) didn't send PMs trying to solicit sex, like jtkirk did.TGT was a Nazi lover, so....good.
I was genuinely surprised to see him appear in the documentaries on the making of David Lynch's Dune to speak positively and in favor of the movie! I think he was one of the few supportive voices for the film when it first came out.Was there anything that Harlan did like, besides being an insufferable curmudgeon?
Oh, so Matalas is always that bad?But sometimes a actor can be good on one movie and be bad in another. Same with writers, directors. Basically anyone not named Terry Matalas.
I missed that, and I remember TGT.He enjoyed publicly humiliating former TrekBBS member The God Thing, who also enjoyed regaling us with the story.
Al Pratt - The AtomI'll have to see if I still have it, but Harlan wrote the forward to a trade paperback or something similar and in it, he wrote about sitting next to someone on an airline flight and he proceeded to tell the person sitting next to him the secret identities of every Justice Society member and what their powers were, just for shits and giggles.
Can you imagine being stuck on a flight sitting next to Harlan, probably not knowing who he is and he starts rattling off names for no reason; you'd be looking to change seats.
Ma Hunkle - The Red Tornado
You forgot Terry Sloane-Mister Terrific Also honorary members Clark Kent-Superman and Bruce Wayne-Batman,Oh, so Matalas is always that bad?
I missed that, and I remember TGT.

I met him ages ago, I thought he was very friendly and pleasant, we had an interesting conversation about composition.Harlan was must-see-TV for my family when he was on Tom Snyder's old late night talk shows. I even find him hilarious at times and very sharp and perceptive about the worlds of literature and television, but yeah, he's an acquired taste and in real life he'd probably require someone of equal grumpiness or from his generation to really get along with him.![]()
Frank Herbert liked it.I was genuinely surprised to see him appear in the documentaries on the making of David Lynch's Dune to speak positively and in favor of the movie! I think he was one of the few supportive voices for the film when it first came out.
So did we most? Admittedly it rushed romantic matters between Paul and Chani and shortchanged Fremen subplots. I'm especially glad the lengthy Duke-Paul discussion about CHOAM was thankfully ignored.Frank Herbert liked it.![]()
