yeah, the Commodore assignment was a way for the Continental and later US Navy to step around the fact they weren't technically allowed to have flag officers. There are only three commodores left today, but many hold out that Lionel Ritchie will rejoin before its too late. Why?
All flag officers in the USN are admirals. "Commodore" was the odd one out.

come to think of it, he was a widow from Paradise Syndrome on. did he have any other long term relationships shown after Miramanee (apart from whenever Carol Marcus and he were together)?
We did, but not since the 19th century, apparently. We need the rank of Fleet Captain. Asking for guys named Jeffrey and Anson.
A former love instructor?TMP's novelization had Kirk getting married to Vice-Admiral Lori Ciana. For whatever it is worth.

Mech-stash suit.Sam died years ago he was just being puppeted by a sentient moustache
It's one of those episodes that's so bad it's kind of good."Code of Honor" isn't that bad of an episode. Certainly compared to the rest of season 1.
I'd put it as a near-great. Great emotional show, but a braver show might have shown Kirk making the choice about whether to stay on the planet or go with his ship, which would have been further emotional knife-twisting.It's not a great episode, but it's also not a terrible one.
