What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Why?

All flag officers in the USN are admirals. "Commodore" was the odd one out.
yeah, the Commodore assignment was a way for the Continental and later US Navy to step around the fact they weren't technically allowed to have flag officers. There are only three commodores left today, but many hold out that Lionel Ritchie will rejoin before its too late.

Alright, but (controversial opinion?) I don't think she was necessarily that person in the film. The director Wise had an interesting idea for who she was.

Memory Alpha article on her: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wik...C-1701)_personnel#Transporter_accident_victim

She was played by Susan J. Sullivan and given the name Lori Ciana (β) in the novelization of Star Trek: The Motion Picture . The novel Forgotten History places her in a relationship with Kirk following his promotion to rear admiral. Her uniform, otherwise, bore no insignias indicating rank or division. [2](X)
In the DVD audio commentary for the Director's Cut, director Robert Wise suggested this officer was the Enterprise's original navigator and that Ilia was a last-minute replacement. Will Decker's surprised reaction at her arrival seemed to support this.
