What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Controversial opinion:

  • Each episode in Trek represents its own timeline/alternate universe. Here is my 27,456 page summary of how it works. No wait…
  • Klingons were always meant to look like they did in DSC but behave like in TOS. No, that’s not it either…
  • Capt. Harriman was the smartest person on the bridge because he had the good sense to offer Kirk “the chair” (closer, but no)…
  • Kelvinverse Spock’s KHAANN! was more appropriate to its story than Kirk’s in TWOK. Maybe??? Nah. Or…
  • The Xindi were more interesting than post-TOS Klingons. Perhaps…
  • Picard S3 is the pinnacle of post-Berman Trek. Umm…no. Definitely not.
  • Star Trek Into Darkness is the best of all the movies. Yes. Yes it is.
(Note: One or more of the above are possibly tongue in cheek but more than one and fewer than seven represent my actual controversial opinions—I leave it to others to decipher which. )

I don't think Star Trek fans actually dislike Into Darkness. Or at least they didn't when they gave it a rating on IMDb, Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes.
It's that phenomenon where the perceived audience reaction and the actual audience reaction are two totally separate things.

I liked ST:ID, but I was also quite surprised at how they changed the old formula.

Also, Khan's Blood is AMAZING. Whatever healing properties it has, we need to mass produce that!

Well, I'd think it was funny, and so would at least 3 or 4 other people who read this board... :)
He might still “actually” be Pyotr anyway. In the Kelvin timeline, on momentary whim, his parents named him Pavel.

There is the whole side effects may include dying thing.
That's part of the R&D into what genetic modifications to let his blood have the super healing factor.

You've got to admit, having humans who have "Genetically Enhanced Healing", but don't enhance other things would be interesting.

I've long stated that the old Geneticists who made Khan & his batch of Augments put WAY too many benefits in one package along with other down-sides.

Especially "Enhanced Aggression / Ambition", humanity naturally has enough as is, it doesn't need more "Enhanced Aggression / Ambition".
Our default values for Aggression / Ambition is "Good Enough".

Into Darkness was a flawed but entertaining enough film. It's easily the worst of the Kelvin trilogy, but it still has its moments.

It is my favorite of the Abramsverse. Great hook, it grabs you and doesn't let go for the entirety of its runtime. Is some of it dumb as fuck? You bet. But, honestly, that is a feature not a bug where Trek is concerned.

All TV/Movie characters have superfast healing. ;)
