Like Shax?Since we have been told to not let continuity get in the way of a good story, then just bring him back. No need to explain. No need for alternate universe. Just make it a good enough story.

Only a small fraction of it.Star Trek's verisimilitude comes from our history being its history.
Just ignore the fake stuff. How hard is that?Only a small fraction of it.
It's diverged ALOT since the 1960's.
Ever since then, IRL history is vastly different than what has ever been portrayed in Star Trek for Earth's history after that point in time.
Trying to shoe-horn in more of IRL history or fake versions of it isn't going to help.
It's best to call it a divergence and let it be.
Fake history class was way harder than real history class.Just ignore the fake stuff. How hard is that?
Tell that to the production staff who likes to do "Time Travel" shows back to modern day.Just ignore the fake stuff. How hard is that?
Last time a checked DS9 wasn't written in 2024.Tell that to the production staff who likes to do "Time Travel" shows back to modern day.
There were no "Bell Riots".
There were no "Sanctuary District A" to visit.
They made that stuff up to create conflict in the story.
Instead of using IRL history of that time frame.
Nah. All the answers are right.Fake history class was way harder than real history class.
Just as VOY ignored the Eugenics Wars in the 90s. (Except for the nerds in the art department)
The Augments originally rose to power and held dominance over a large portion of Humanity, beginning in the early 1990s. Among the most notorious of these superhuman conquerors was Khan Noonien Singh, who in 1992 became the "absolute ruler" of more than a quarter of the planet, from Asia through the Middle East. (TOS: "Space Seed")
Speculation.Luckily the original Eugenics Wars took place over most of the Asian Continent.
Granted most US News don't cover much world news either, even during that period when Voyager went back in time.
So not talking about the Eugenics Wars was a good decision as well since it was relevant to the story that Voyager was dealing with, which is local to Los Angeles, CA
We hardly get coverage of most world news, the news cycle is so fast, they keep jumping to the latest outrage / controversy.Speculation.
Pretty sure the "last of your so called World Wars" would get coverage in the States.

Ukraine and other conflicts around the world barely get covered in the news.
And Gaza. And Syria...Ukraine's covered constantly here.
Do you spend your time only watching World News? And Gaza. And Syria...

Star Trek's verisimilitude comes from our history being its history.
And you're unable to find international news on American sites?Ah, I'm usually on the internet.
I haven't cared for TV in decades.
If I intentionally go looking for it, sure I'm able to find it easily. And you're unable to find international news on American sites?
