What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Funny, I want more Trek TV shows to get produced, you don't make them w/o getting results from your existing series and making hits.
What's getting made is SNW, SEC31:the Movie and Starfleet Academy. Seems to run the gamut.
You weren't part of the fanbase who were complaining about the setting of SNW.
Which part is that? The TNG fans?
He's "Our Nepo Baby". Terry Matalas is a Trekkie, just like us.
He seems like a nice guy and solid Trekkie. Just not a fan of the Legacy pitch or Jack Crusher and Co.

Soo...Strange New Worlds?
YES! It's a HIT SHOW!
The views prove it.

I don't care about TNG.
Well, there are ALOT of Trekkies who do.

SNW is fine where it is, just keep it going.

Section 31 (TV/Streaming Movie) is being made with Michelle Yeoh as the lead.
That's fine given her busy schedule.

StarFleet Academy was created while canceling DISCO.
I hope they know what they're doing, I wasn't a fan of them canceling DISCO to make StarFleet Academy.
But the budget had to come from somewhere.

Which part is that? The TNG fans?
The TOS fans who didn't want another show set too close to their show in time frame.

Well, I guess I fall on the other side of that opinion.
I like Captain Seven of Nine, I like Jack Crusher, I like most of the PIC S3 cast and I want more of the PIC extended cast to join in on ST:Legacy.

You know that's not a thing, right?
SNW wasn't a thing until fans kept pushing for it incessantly, then it got made 3-4 years later.

It hasn't been that long since PIC:S3 ended.

It means that there is a LARGE fanbase who want TNG-era related content.
And many of the recent shows take place post TNG/NEM.

Jack Crusher sucks. Like Okona levels annoying while thinking he is charming. An outlaw character somehow welcomed in.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that interpretation.

Captain Seven would be great. Rather see her on La Sirena with the PIC1 & 2 cast. Jack is just too much of a bad boy cliche. No depth or anything of interest there. He's what many fans think the Kirk from 09 is. The La Forge sister are pretty much cyphers. The rest of the crew are cyphers.

If you say so.

Deep Space Nine seems popular too. Don't see it getting more made at the moment.

Indeed.

It's amazing what characters are acceptable when related to a TNG Legacy character.

LEG is one of those projects I was gung ho about in 2023 but in the past year have grown almost completely cold on. We can do better, both for the in-universe direction of the franchise in the early 25th century and for viewers.

Strange New Worlds had a lot more going for it.

It had Akiva Goldsman champing at the bit to get it made. It had a partly created Bridge set already constructed in Toronto. It also started production during a much more stable period for Paramount Plus. It had the momentum.

What momentum has "Legacy" got left? Its supposed showrunner has his hands full for the next several years. Nothing is built. And Paramount only has so much money to throw around.

SNW had Akiva Goldsman in it's corner. He was pushing for it from second he was hired.
It has Terry Matalas & Fans pushing for it.

The USS Titan / Enterprise Bridge is already built, same with other parts of the ship.

As far as Paramount Plus status, that's a different story.

You saw PIC S3, a good chunk of the Ships sets were already built.

Money is the biggest issue.

Most of the casting is figured out.

Part of the problem is many of the cast is retired, passed away, or aged out of playing the role.
Sadly that's been a big issue with DS9.

Avery Brooks is retired and not acting.
Rene Auberjonois has passed away
Aron Eisenberg has passed away
Marc Alaimo has passed away
Louise Fletcher has passed away
etc.

And alot of the existing DS9 Actors have shown back up in Lower Decks.

Terry Matalas has his hands full working for Marvel, plus a few other projects he's working on for at least the next 2 years, if not longer.
The USS Titan / Enterprise Bridge is already built, same with other parts of the ship.
All sets from Picard, except the Enterprise-D bridge were destroyed.

Nope. They're gone. And even if they weren't, the cost of shipping them to Toronto would be cost prohibited.
Most of the casting is figured out.
Is it? You've probably got Seven, Raffi and Crusher. Plus maybe a LaForge sister. Beyond that? And that's assuming they'll be available in however many years it takes for production to start. If it starts at all.

I believe those sets were struck.
Are you sure?

So they should suffice then.

We'll see how his schedule will turn out.

So I guess they'll have to remake them.
At least the designs for them should've been saved.

Alison Pill can still have a role as a recurring guest character.
Isa Briones can be a regular.
We can find a way to use Time Travel Shenanigans to bring back Santiago Cabrera since we know when his character perishes in the past.
Evan Evagora can obviously be used as a regular.
Harry Treadway can have a recurring guest character role
Orla brady along with the rest of the TNG main cast can be guest characters as well.

Marc Alaimo isn't dead.
My bad, wrong actor

As much as I'd like to see a LEGACY series, it's not happening. At the very least, for a good number of years. Paramount just doesn't have the money to keep more than 2 shows in production at once now. When SNW ends or us close to it, we might some conversations. But for the next 3 calendar years (two tv seasons, but since there's such a huge gap in time between seasons)? SNW and ACADEMY are it.

That's sad to hear, hopefully something changes with it's BtS (Behind the Scenes) dealings with Paramount.

I'm hoping the SkyDance acquisition of Paramount Studios helps the Star Trek division.
