What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Sounds cheery.

Kes was an incredibly ill-thought-out character. It isn't on Jennifer Lien, she did the best she could with the material, the creators and writers let her and the character down.
I think the entire Kes-Neelix dynamic was wrong.

I never bought them as a couple. I never thought they had any chemistry which would justify the relationship.

To me, the entire situation was really ill-conceived. If she only has 7-years of life, Neelix would be extremely concerned about cherishing every moment, since his experiences with her are on a timer. If they had set up that Neelix saw Starfleet as possibly being a way of extending her life, and that being a reason for why he was being their "guide" through the Delta Quadrant, that would have made more sense. That he had allied himself with Starfleet as a way to search for ways to keep her around.

They should have figured out a way to introduce the character, without the creepy 40-year-old hedgehog boyfriend.

This.

Lien's just fine when given the right material. Her supporting role in American History X proves that. But Kes was not a well-written character and showed it in most of the episodes she was a part of.

What was wrong with calling your ship THE Enterprise, THE Defiant, or whatever?

It was good enough for three decades of Trek.

I can accept they did away with it for VOY and ENT. I didn’t really care for either series anyway.

But I’m hating the SNW retcon of just calling it Enterprise. Not that, I guess, I even really care for that series either.

It can go either way IRL. So why not?

When you use "THE ____" named vessel.

There's implication that there are multiple of those vessels in history.

That makes sense later down in the timeline once multiple ships bearing the same name have come & gone.

If you're the "First Vessel" of that name in history of your existing organization, then there is no need to append "THE ___" vessel logically.

And Earth StarFleet is a seperate organization from UFP StarFleet.

So the TOS/SNW Enterprise wouldn't need to use "THE Enterprise" because other ships of that name haven't existed yet in the timeline at that point in time.

I barely even noticed that they dropped 'the' for Voyager, as it just sounds better without it, and leaving it off for the NX-01 helped make it feel like a different time. But doing it on Strange New Worlds is just weird. I don't like that.

Thankfully the other shows have given us the Cerritos, the Protostar, La Sirena and the Titan, so normality is mostly intact.

Eh. Different decades, different habits.

They should have never called it Earth Starfleet. It is canon that it was called UESPA, and that is the name they should have used.
