True fans oscillate. Don't give me any of that stationary B.S.
If you can't cool down in more than one direction you're not canon.
If you can't cool down in more than one direction you're not canon.
And?And yet so many of us LOVE "The Mandalorian".
It outpaces the writers. I know from experience. Holding up writers to "true/real fan" standards is BS. And if being a "true fan" is what is required then no, I don't want that honorific. We're all Real/True Fans on this BBS.
The amount of minutiae that we know would easily outpace most casual fans.
I've been called a Trek superfan, and I'm a very vocal critic. I won't hesitate to call out episodes and even whole movies as hot garbage if that's what they are in my eyes. We're all Real/True Fans on this BBS.

You're "ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!"It outpaces the writers. I know from experience. Holding up writers to "true/real fan" standards is BS. And if being a "true fan" is what is required then no, I don't want that honorific.
Being critical of Stories / Plot is a seperate issue from being a "Super Fan".I've been called a Trek superfan, and I'm a very vocal critic. I won't hesitate to call out episodes and even whole movies as hot garbage if that's what they are in my eyes.
Then what do you call the existing batch of writers? And @fireproof78 is spot on. A preponderance of fans know far more Trek trivia than those hired on to write new Trek scripts. Should that be the litmus test for landing a writing job? No. Get a decent understanding of the show, acquaint yourself with the writer's bible. Then tell us a really good Star Trek story. Superfan writers will never bring new life to the franchise. They'll most certainly snuff it out.
No, it's not. It works sometimes and is meaningless other times. What is great is the characters. The Geekery in them along with minutiae is GREAT.
You don't like being one of us?This is not hatred. It's rejecting a ridiculous categorization of people.
And you still got your great characters, while other people got the great minutiae that we wanted. No, it's not. It works sometimes and is meaningless other times. What is great is the characters.
Not really, no. Excluding people is not ok.You don't like being one of us?
Not always. And you still got your great characters, while other people got the great minutiae that we wanted.
But you wanted to exclude "Hard Core Trek Fans" from (writing/working) on (new/current) Star Trek shows so you can get your "Fresh Perspective".Not really, no. Excluding people is not ok.
ST can't only cater to things you like, it has to cater to the greater Trek Community. Not always.
I do?But you wanted to exclude "Hard Core Trek Fans" from (writing/working) on (new/current) Star Trek shows so you can get your "Fresh Perspective".
How is that inclusive?
It never has.ST can't only cater to things you like

That means other people's likes must be considered as well.
ST isn't a show made for FireProof78, it's a show made for as many ST fans as possible.
That means some things have to give to accomodate the tick boxes for other fans.
Yes, but doesn't mean we shouldn't try. We only need to look at "The Mandolorian", "Star Wars: The Bad Batch", "The Book of Boba Fett" to see that going back to your roots can actively satisfy a giant chunk of your existing fan base.Unfortunately there’s no such thing as successfully “making Star Trek for as many fans as possible.” Surely just by reading this message board for a few years you’ve seen that we are as divided and focused inwardly on our own opinions as any fandom in existence.
Doesn't mean you don't try, you still tell your story, but you strive to satisfy as many as possible.Thers no way to please everyone, and I think the worst mistake you can make as a writer / producer is to try. Just tell your fucking story and let the chips fall. Somebody’s always going to bitch and hate for whatever reason.
They don't need to be fan to know what it is.When I'm buying a chocolate cake I don't want the baker's entirely fresh perspective on what a chocolate cake should be. They can apply all their skill and unique creativity to it, but they also need to know what a chocolate cake is and how it differs from other cakes.
True, Nick Meyer is literal proof of that. They don't need to be fan to know what it is.
I have not said otherwise.True, Nick Meyer is literal proof of that.
He wasn't a Trekkie before he started, but he did "Do his HomeWork" and "Do his research" before he continued to make the movies.
So some amount of due diligience is necessary if you don't start out as a well versed fan.
Good, then you won't mind it when (HardCore / Well Versed) Trekkies (join / work) on the existing ST: Productions, right?I have not said otherwise.
If they are the most qualified. Trek fan status is not a qualification, and does not factor in to the decision.Good, then you won't mind it when (HardCore / Well Versed) Trekkies (join / work) on the existing ST: Productions, right?
Why can't Trek fan status be a extra qualifier? Why are you excluding that option? If they are the most qualified. Trek fan status is not a qualification, and does not factor in to the decision.
It's not relevant. Why can't Trek fan status be a extra qualifier? Why are you excluding that option?
