The characterization and portrayal of Sybok by Luckinbill was pitch perfect. The conception of the character is extremely interesting.

However, the film in which the character existed failed on many levels. Some of that failure involved reducing Sybok to a device simply to further the plot.

An important element that was missing from the film was an exploration of Sybok's pain, what it was that made him vulnerable to being deluded and tricked by the false god. Also missing was a scene involving him coming to terms with his flaws and failures including having been duped by the entity, more than the hurried turnaround leading straight into him doing his pain mind thing on the enemy.

I don't think so. Armus was left on his planet when a species ascended to non-corporeal form or something. The Ba'ul were an oppressed people. I doubt that the folks who generated Armus would end up in that situation. My personal headcanon is that the people who created Armus became the Changelings.

I wish we were getting Discovery Season 4 and Picard Season 2 at the same time. I'm looking forward to both equally.

"Two shows at the same time?! Oversaturation!" Yeah, yeah... Save it. Those are the only two Trek shows I'm excited about. "And I want to see them now!" There are five current Trek shows, but those are my two. The other three? They can come out whenever they want. No rush.

No no, you would just binge them immediately and want more, more.
Better if they come out separately so there's more to look forward to.

Oooo, good catch. I just based my list on the original poster. I've edited to add Short Trecks.

I like the episode, I hate Jean Luc "Why did you save these losers?" Picard.

I'd still say he was far more coherent than freakin' Nero.

You think the Changelings beauty dazzles all who see them? Or that they act like they've purged their evil impulses? Also that they originate in the alpha quadrant?

Picard is just an unpleasant asshole throughout almost that entire episode.

He’s an unpleasant asshole in almost all of Season 1.

I’d be curious to see how different the character would have been if they had actually gotten Sean Connery to do it.

    Okay, let’s see…

Definitely looking forward to Discovery season 4.

Definitely looking forward to Strange New Worlds.

Picard has a lot to answer for. The last 2 episodes were a fucking dumpster fire of shitiness. The worst Star Trek ever. And this is coming from someone who ranks TNG as their favorite series.

The main draw for season 2 is Q. I’m not afraid to admit I love that character. So I will watch, but I’m starting off pissed at the bullshit ending of season 1.

If I'm honest, my memory of the back story for Armus was near non existent- just visually something clicked for me when I first saw them.

I think PIC Season 1 overall was better than any season thus far of DSC but yeah, I cannot excuse how bad the season finale was. This is the first time Trek has introduced a member of the Soong family and it sucked.

People LOVE Picard and I honestly don't see it. Patrick Stewart is a fine actor, but, I never found Picard to be that likable of a character.

^I think early Picard took himself too seriously, was a bit too assured of his own morality, and needed Q to take him down a few notches, even though Q has very much of a 'con man' air himself.

I have no such problems with 'later seasons Picard' (in TNG).

The penultimate episode was awful, in large part due to the shoddy direction on the part of Akiva Goldsman. The finale was just barely saved by the introduction of the Data scene, which - while completely unnecessary from a plot standpoint - tied back into the first episode, and had some genuine feels.
