What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

My controversial opinion of the day is that I don't care even a little bit about ship design.

I do care a little bit (I like pretty starships), but yeah... I often wonder how some fans can obsess about little details on a starship and why a fictional design in a fictional universe has a problem that shouldn't make it work. But hardly pay attention to the stories, the plot, the acting, the characters.
And, again, every fan can and should get out of Star Trek what makes them happy, I will never judge that.
But for me personally, all it will be is 'oeh, prett ship' and back to plot/story/character/acting.

I'm sure there must be people like that, but I can't imagine there are many of them.

As critical as I am of most TMP fashions I will always say this uniform is pure fire. A uniform so good even the Kelvin Timeline had its own version seen in two different films.

Wait, that's not controversial. That's just the truth.

It’s very interesting. If you look at the uniforms between The Cage, WNMHGB and TMP, the uniform colors are very similar. Very muted, earthy colors. When you add in the technicolor Gold/avocado green, blue and red from the series, that’s where the issue comes into play.

I wish that had continued through into the Monster Maroon era as the flag officer’s dress uniform.

Interesting how the Dominion War-era dress uniform echoes that same color pattern, too.

Is she really so different a concept from Locutus? He doesn't really make sense, either (why have a speaker? why just Picard and not more officers?), but they both help manufacture drama.

No. And that's my point. The Borg Queen's existence negates the need for Locutus. She already was the unifying embodiment of the collective. She was the one voice. She could access the collective memories of all humans assimilated up to that point (and after) and fill every requirement the Borg intended for Picard as Locutus.

Yeah, I think the more logical reason to have something like Locutus is as a deliberate form of psychological warfare to soften particularly tough resistance. There's no reason the Borg shouldn't be willing to use that idea.

Only problem is they used it rather too early. The Federation hadn't proven itself so shockingly intractable until they stopped the BoBW invasion.

She was shy back then. Then she assimilated Dale Carnegie.
