What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Damn, they gave Burnham life in prison for violating an order, Georgiou gets to command her own ships after committing genocide.

Gotta love Star Trek. :guffaw:
Section 31 believes in Redemption, but Burnham had no skills that S31 wanted, apart from sus muhna. Or in another universe, they recruited her before Lorca did.......

Georgiou's equivalent to Kor and Garak iny view.

All should have been executed after their first appearance.
Kor's an anomaly. He made one appearance in TOS as the Klingon of the week. Wonderful performance by Colicos, but a fairly generic character. Pops in TAS voiced by someone else. Shows up in DS9 but has little connection to what was done TOS. Pretty much a new character.

Yeah, they pretty clearly messed up the reference. But in doing so, they accidentally created two death penalties instead of one, so there could be more, after all, and the 'only one exception' statement just isn't true.

Why would Sulu lie?

Garak is one of the best Trek characters (ok might not be controversial)

Garak is one of the best Trek characters , he is even better than Kirk (that's more like it)
(ponders, deeply)

Yes, I can agree with this.

I love Kirk, but there was a little bit more to Garak. The mystery of the man really helps... even with all that IS known. (And some of that can even be questioned.)

One thing that both characters have in common... the actors portraying them was perfectly cast.

No, I'm sure someone on the writing staff thought they were very clever with their idea for a Mirror-redemption arc. But, like others have said, they went too far with Georgiou to make a believable redemption story.
I see your point. If the character had been a fictionalized real genocidal monster, I'd probably have no interest in this (for example, I loved Preacher, but had issues with their depiction of Hitler). However, I'm willing to entertain ideas in fiction I'd find repulsive in real life. I've also got a little leftover Catholic in me that says everyone has the potential to be redeemed (NOT that you ignore their past actions or give them a pass, just that they can change). On the 3rd hand, I've never been a fan of The Villain is The Hero (Breaking Bad, Dexter, etc.). If they go that way, I'll be disappointed.

I'm willing to wait and see what they do. It might suck and I will happily say, "It sucked. You were right." But it might not suck (IMO) and I might get some enjoyment from it.
No matter what, YOU decide what works for you. It's just a TV movie. It's all good.

There's still hope for Captain Georgiou. I know the Klingons SAID they ate her, but it doesn't mean they actually did.
I'd use my "Chrono Trigger - Body Swap" technique to rescue Prime Georgiou and whisk her away to the future.

There are so many Heroes / Legends you can rescue from a bland / sad fate and give them a second chance at life.

Seems the only exceptional case is Talos IV.
We can always make new Exceptions.

I don’t believe that was the case for “Turnabout Intruder”.

They were refencing General Order 7 in that episode, they just called it by the wrong number (General Order 4, in this case, unless Starfleet reassigned at least two of the order numbers between 2267 and 2269). TOS didn't dwell on all too much episode-to-episode background continuity but the death penalty for one and only one exception was among the few instances.
