I just wrapped up a rewatch of Oz yesterday. It seems I didn't watch nearly as much as I thought I did when it first aired. I probably didn't see 60% of it back in the day. It's still an excellent series, especially seasons 1-4. 5 & 6 get a bit funky, but still have their moments. After I finished, I did some digging on production and all that and found out a short sequel movie was released back on YouTube by creator Tom Fontana in 2024 called Zo. It's a 16 minute short that features Beecher and O'Reilly, both now out of jail, on a really tense phone call. It's really good and worth watching if you're a fan of the series. I just finished Maid, a 2021 netflix limited series about poverty and abuse.
The protagonist is a single mom who runs away from an abusive boyfriend with her toddler and ends up in a DV shelter.
I grew up working class but this level of poverty depicted is a bit surreal (some reviews say its very accurate, which is frightening).
I'm not much of a drama fan, but this was an excellent show.
