Timothy Chalemet did an incredible job representing Bob Dylan, and it's interesting to see a straight realist take on Bob Dylan after the freewheeling metaphorical I'm Not There. Most musician biopics will try to give a dramatic motive to the subject's behavior, but this movie kept his motives enigmatic and only hinted at and only showed his behavior. I love that creative decision.
It's interesting to see as a big Bob Dylan fan but who wasn't alive to witness the events in real time. I got into him through my dad while I was in college.
I was a little disappointed that they ended the movie at the Newport Folk Festival 1965. While it is the most pivotal moment of his career I would have loved to see the next couple years leading up to his motorcycle crash, near death experience and how it changed him. Especially considering how many times they showed him on a motorcycle early in the film. That's one area of his life I thought I'm Not There hit out of the park. That's my one criticism of the film, we saw Dylan break free of the constraints of the folk scene but didn't get to truly see the fallout.
