What are you watching???

I've started watching Gravity Falls, and its pretty good. Some of the first few episodes are a bit rough, but by the Street Fighter Parody episode I was liking the show a good deal.

I also dropped the Expanse after Episode 6 recently (boring dramas with exclusively bad people and little activity is the worst trend in modern tv) and now I have to try to find a new Sci fi show because I'm craving one. I guess I can continue watching Stargate Atlantis, but that show is a real mixed bag.

My eleven year old son loves Gravity Falls.

Just started Killing Eve. Clever and dark, yet witty writing as well. Sandra Oh is great and Jodie comer reminds me of a young Charlize Theron mixed with Annabelle Wallis. Both female leads are amazing.

Love that show. And, you know, if Margot Robbie ever tires of playing Harley Quinn, Comer would be great in the role.

Gravity Falls is one of my favorite shows. I regret not preordering the DVD when it was super cheap at Target.

However I question your tastes in shows if you drop The Expanse, one of the best sci-fi shows of the last decade, for Atlantis, one of the worst in the last few decades.

The Expanse shows humans as they are dickish and bad. Crisjen is one of my favourite characters, and that actress has gotten a lot of work in recent years on shows and movies. She's good. Crisjen is a badass.

I didn't care much for the protomolecule stuff it seemed a bit cliche, and yeah it's in the books but yeah still felt that way to me.

Does Crisjen survive the events of the last episode of season 2?

Atlantis isn't that bad. It can be pretty good at times (although nowhere near as good as SG-1). The Expanse moves like molasses, almost every character is an ass, and its more of a (bad) political drama then a Sci Fi show. By episode 5-6 I was just sitting there realising that I didn't actually like any of the characters, that they were all pretty much assholes at minimum and monsters at worst, and I didn't care about anything that was happening, especially after

Thomas Jane got fired because DRAMA!

SG Atlantis at least has some decent characters and can pull off an entertaining episode fairly regularly.

There are approximately 10,000 shows on the air right now all about how bad humans are, to the point where its ridiculous. I'm not what you'd call an optimist, but I feel like Barney the Dinosaur compared to dull, washed out, dark and depressing worlds of shows like The Expanse. So bwtween that and finding the show's story boring, I just couldn't keep going with it. I'm fine with some darkness in shows, but I can't stand shows with the attitude that everyone is an asshole and the "hero" is just the least horrible person or the horrible person who just happens to do good things occasionally.

So... you are complaining because it's realistic? Humans are a plague on this planet that is responsible for killing more species, or almost killing, than we could ever possibly count. Wolly Mammoths, bald eagles, to American bisons, to elephants, tigers, lions and on and on.

Oh no I like that they did this in the show..... I didn't think it sounded like a complaint. I liked this. But as @kirk55555 said there are a LOT of shows that are doing this and there's no actual variety.

Yeah, at some point that stuff gets really tiring. Not every show needs to be super optimistic or anything, but endless cynicism and darkness just gets old to me. Maybe if The Expanse had came out a decade ago I'd have watched more of it because it would have felt more unique, but gritty dramas where everyone is horrible is a concept that is beyond tired for me at this point. Even if the settings/stories are completely different, it all starts feeling the same to me and its not a style that I particularly liked when it was first becoming popular anyway.

I totally agree with that.

I'd have been fine with this had it just been a story about Earth and Mars but the writers throw in the alien junk too. But in this case it wasn't their fault because the source material for the show had that in it.

I'm thinking of doing a rerun of Buffy starting tonight. It's been a while.
I've also got Ransom from last night (The tv show, not related to the flick)
