What are you watching???

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie

I've only seen the first episode of the series (it was ok, but I didn't feel like continuing at the time), but this was in the $7.88 blu ray bin at Wal-Mart so I picked it up. It was very good. It had an interesting story about someone trying to end the world, and the art/animation was amazing, especially the backgrounds. it also worked perfectly well even for someone with almost no knowledge of the show like myself. Overall a very enjoyable movie, and a blind buy I don't regret.

Beauty and the Beast (2014 French live action film)

A movie with good visuals, and some interesting characters and subplots. But, it completely stumbles with the relationship between Belle and the Beast. You never buy the relationship, or her falling in love with him. He's also pretty creepy and never earns any real kind of redemption scene.

The subplots and other character relationships, along with the movie's particular telling of certain events of the story, mean I still enjoy the movie a fair amount (ironically two other romances, including one Beast has in the past before getting cursed, worked fairly well), but I have to admit it does a poor job with what should be the core of the movie.

Its not nearly as good as the classic Disney movie, but I'd say its better then the recent Disney live action remake. I say that because, even if it failed at the main relationship in the movie, this movie still felt like its own telling of the story and wasn't an unneeded (although decently made) retelling of one particular version that didn't need a remake, which is what the live action Disney movie was. So, I think this is an ok movie, and I'd watch it again, but it could have been a lot better.

Star Trek Original: "The Deadly Years", DS9: "The Battle of the ??? (Missed full title-it flashed too fast), Voyager: "Bride of Chaotica" (Too Funny!!! Reminded me of the old "FLASH GORDON" series!) and Enterprise: "The Augments" (I really liked this tri-episode with Brent Spiner who at the end hinted at making an "artificial life form" and we know who that is!). Really good stuff last night and a variety of entertainments.
