What are you watching???

Wow, Anne of Green Gables has had 21 Films/TV films TV series and TV miniseries
since it's publication...
more popular than Star Trek!

Yup. Netflix. That's what I was watching last night.

Been watching that one on CBC in Canada, and it's not that great of a production. Seems to be a gloomier version of the story. There's another recent remake that appeared on TV a few months ago that was much better (Fire & Dew, The Good Stars) and starring Martin Sheen as Matthew Cuthbert. That one seemed to be more lighthearted.

The Martin Sheen one has a sequel, out very soon. :)

Yep, and already out in Canada. All these releases all of a sudden makes me wonder if there's something significant that happened with the rights to the story. For the last few decades, there was only one production company helming them, and they made the popular one starring Megan Follows. its sequels and the Avonlea series. Now we not only have one production company, but two of them, making their own versions of the story. Maybe it's something done in conjunction to Canada's 150th celebrations.

Btw, the actor who plays Matthew in the CBC/Netflix production also played Jasper Dale in the Avonlea series. Almost didn't recognize him, because in that series, he always wore glasses.

Ghost in the Shell (1995)

I was very unimpressed. the animation is good, but the story is either boring philosophy or borderline incoherent. The movie also loathes any exposition, especially about the overall world, so google had to explain to me what a "ghost" is, and that's how I realized that the movie was mostly about Cyborgs, not robots like I assumed through most of the movie. The characters are barely characters, with the main woman being the worst. She only exists to spout inane philosophy about the nature of living blah, blah, blah its's nothing that hasn't been said before. The ending is completely confusing but I don't really care enough to find an explanation online. Overall, this is another "classic" that I'll never understand how it got that title.

12 Angry Men (1957)

A very good film about a jury who are trying to decide on the outcome of a murder trial. All but three minutes of its running time take place in a single room, but its so well written and acted that it works.

Three Colors: Blue (1993)

This is a movie I watched on a whim, mostly because it had been mentioned in a video from a youtuber I like and I was in the mood for something different. I enjoyed it a good deal. Its about a woman who has to deal with her husband and daughter dying in a car accident. Its not the type of movie I usually like (its an artsy franch film), but it was done very well. I cared about the main character and what she was going through. the fact that the plot wasn't very deep and it had unusual moments didn't hurt it like I would have thought. Overall, a film that surprised me and one I liked a lot more then I thought I would, although I'm sure a lot of the nuance and symbolism it seemed to have went right over my head.

I just finished Hand of God which is a lot better than I thought, but the bad parts are roll your eyes bad. I'm really pissed we never got the 3rd and finale season showdown between good and evil.

I'm confused. The Promo says it's not airing until May 12, so how have you watch it already?

I'm a time traveller.

(Anne aired terrestrially on CBC, in Canada, one episode at a time. When the streaming starts on Netflix, they will drop the full load.)
