Watched Les Miserables (2012), mostly because a film podcast I listen to has an episode on it. I...really liked it
I shouldn't, I don't usually do well with live action musicals and this one had the disadvantage of a few bad singers (Crowe most notably) and the film direction being so bad even I noticed it, but despite itself I really enjoyed it.
Apparently the film was one of the few musical films to do live singing, singing live to the camera in the scene instead of lip synching, and it kind of explains why I could sense something was different with the singing in the film. I don't know much about live action musicals but the singing, while I enjoyed it, felt a bit weak even from people like Jackman, so I guess the live singing probably explains that.
Still, despite all that I enjoyed watching it. I barely even felt its 2 hour and 40 minute runtime, which really blows me away because I'm usually annoyed by long movies that aren't Sci-Fi/Fantasy, so despite the films flaws it definitely grabbed me well enough.
