What are you watching???

Dates

British import airing on the CW. Seen the first two episodes and am enjoying so far. I always like new story-telling formats and using people's first dates as a framework is an interesting idea. I think the last half-hour drama that I watched was In Treatment and that one had a unique story-telling structure as well, with each episode contained within a patient's session and that session's location.

Also, Dates is an anthology show, a series format endangered to the point of near-extinction in the 21st century TV landscape. As a fan of anthology series, it's refreshing to watch a one-and-done story in a single half-hour of television these days.

Keep with it, it's excellent and you can do nine episodes in your sleep. Dates wasn't renewed, or more likely, they only wanted to make one season.

Dates is made by the people who made Skins.

So if you want to see the same thing but with drugged up badly behaved teenagers, you can. season one is staring Nicholas Hoult, who made it big in the X-Men Prequels as Beast.

Oh, I'll keep with it. I really enjoy the show; I just wish that it could have been a pure anthology program, from start to finish. Nostalgia for an older flavor of TV series type, I guess.

And no need to recommend Skins. I loved the original cast seasons, but it drifted out of my sphere of interest when Effie became the focus of the series. The MTV version was dogshit.

Skins got reeeeally dark after season 3.

Love Bites was good. Short, but full of familiar faces.

A central character (Beckie Newton from Ugly Betty) would bump into new people, for who the rest of the episode would be about how they fall in love.

7 Days In Hell

Quite funny.

Hamlet 2

Really like this film.

Inside The Ku Klux Klan

Fascinating/disturbing doc from Dan Vernon.

It was a fun show. The couples weaves in and out of their own stories and they were connected in the background to the stories of other couples. I think Newton was pregnant while filming its only season.

I remember Greg Grunberg's affable face attached to a hipster-type character on the show -- can that be right? I'm picturing tattoos.

Oh! So, you've seen everything ever made as well. :)

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

My God, the photography is like fine art! Some of the establishing shots belong in a gallery.
