What are you watching?

Last night, I watch Empire Strikes Back for the first time in a long time, while hubby worked on the computer. Then, I watched Doctor Who, Eleventh Hour, for the second or third time.

Being at someone else's house makes it difficult to really relax, so I was happy to find something on late-night TV.

^^ I've had that on all day and I've been watching it off and on.

Tonight I'll watch Falling Skies, if there's a new episode.

I am currently looking at How Long is a Piece of String with Alan Davies on YouTube because I forgot to look at it when it was on TV a couple of weeks ago. It is the history and problems etc of measurement.

I've just watched the intro-teaser of it and while it sounds interesting, one question irked me throughout: Why Alan Davies?

I think Alan Davies might have been chosen because he had no more knowledge of physics than the average person and therefore his questions were on a level that non-knowledgeable people could appreciate.

Just finished up with the season opener of Burn Notice. Then watched the third episode of the Glee summer show (I can't remember the exact name at the moment - kids competing for a guest run).

The Glee Project. How is that show anyway. I didn't have much interest in it, but have heard it being talked about on occasion.
It's just about what you'd expect it to be. Some of the kids are hugely annoying, some are endearing, some really haven't made an impression yet, all are pretty talented musically. I'm enjoying the glimpses into the thought processes and personalities of the people behind the show. This last week the guest mentor from the show was Dot-Marie Jones (Coach Beiste) who plays my favorite character on the show right now. It was really great to hear her talk about her character.

. :( I'm determined to watch the whole series though. There's value there. I know it. Somewhere. *repeated sigh*

Did you ever watch it through before? Seasons 3 and 4 are where its at. What's so sad is the show compares pretty well to others. I don't care what series it is, none of them find themselves until Season 4. In fact, I think it's arguable that overall, Enterprise's Season 3 is as good as or better than any of the other series.

...snip...
When it first aired, I watched Enterprise for the first year-and-a-half or so. I quit when I realized it was a chore that I was forcing myself to fulfill. It was last priority on my list of things to watch, and I always seemed to put it off until I had absolutely nothing else to do. Then "A Night in Sickbay" aired and I decided enough was enough.

But I've heard enough people around here saying how good it got in the last couple seasons that I'm willing to give it another shot - especially now that it's on Netflix instant view.

So far I've watched "Broken Bow" and "Fight or Flight" and here's a summary of my impressions:

  • I loathe T'Pol with all that is in me. It has nothing to do with the catsuit and everything to do with how the character is written and how Blalock portrays her. She is unbearable whenever she's on screen.
  • I hate the way the Vulcans were given a smug, disdainful superiority complex. In previous series I didn't really care one way or the other about Vulcans. To me they were just rather dull. This show took a species that should have been gracious mentors to humanity and made them insufferable, arrogant jerks. RUINED the species for me.
  • Already I want to toss scaredy-cat Hoshi out an airlock, and I'm actually inclined to like this character because I think the actress is charming. As a corollary - they don't have the universal translator, so instead Hoshi has magical translating powers?
  • Don't even get me started on the reckless decisions Archer has made so far. "Oooh look, a pretty new planet with air like ours - let's go play down there without even launching a probe or observing it for more than 5 minutes!" (Guess that comment indicates I've also watched "Strange New World" - I fell asleep 10 minutes in after all the eye-rolling made my eyes heavy.)
There are aspects of the show I like though, don't get me wrong. And it's Trek, which automatically makes me interested and gives me a desire to really like it. But each of the other modern shows, even with their flaws, had characters I liked and plots that for the most part made sense. So far I'm having a hard time caring about any of these people, and I SHOULD care about them! This is humanity's bold first venture into exploration outside its own neighborhood. But all I want to do is fire the captain and send the first officer back to diplomacy school.

Sorry for the thread hijack. You may now return to your regularly scheduled recitation of your viewing habits.

(Oh, and as an aside, I don't get why people are making such a big deal about MLB listing the games he's watching. He's expressing his interests just like the rest of us are. It's not like he's hijacking the thread or making posts that aren't easily just disregarded if you're not interested. Who cares?)

Didn't know anyone was given a hard time for posting sports. Personally I love knowing someone else on the board is watching the same games as me.

Watched Limitless earlier. Wasn't too bad actually. Reasonably entertaining.

Watching Star Wars (ep. 4) at the moment. I'm in bed and can't sleep. Laptops for the win.

I am watching the last episode of NUMB3RS - Season 3.

After I finish that, I am going to go to ESPN or something and try to find highlights from the Tour de France.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, "The Pegasus". Regardless of B&B's efforts to destroy this episode by proxy, it is still one of my favorites. I love that the normally unshakeable dynamic between Picard and Riker takes a hit here; not that I would want to see that dynamic destroyed, just that I like seeing such things get attention once in a while.
