What are you three favorite comedies?

It's impossible for me to name a definitive three, particularly only three movies, so today's list (in no order) is:

Movies:
My Favourite Wife
When Harry Met Sally...
The Philadelphia Story

TV shows:
As Time Goes By
Yes, Minister / Prime Minister
Friends

  1. Young Frankenstein
  2. Blazing Saddles
  3. Monty Python & the Holy Grail
Since it appears that some have added TV, as well:

  1. As Time Goes By
  2. M*A*S*H
  3. Sports Night

For television I might go with Spaced, Frasier, and The Golden Girls.

For movies perhaps Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Shaun of the Dead, and Some Like it Hot.

I've given some more thought to this, and here is what I came up with:

Ghostbusters
Coming to America
His Girl Friday

Spaceballs
Blazing Saddles
Galaxy Quest

These are not in order.

I've heard good things about Superbad, but have never seen it. Can you guys recommend it, or is it something I should pass on?

If you don't mind TONS of profanity, you should enjoy "Superbad". I think it's a really clever, funny, and well-written teen comedy, but even I found the volume of swearing a little jarring at times (and I totally have no problem with swearing). It's hard to narrow down my favourite comedies to three, but off the top of my head, I'd probably go with...

"Parenthood"
"Get Shorty"
and "The Sure Thing"

"The Big Lebowski" and "Swingers" could have been in one of those spots too.

At the moment:
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Hot Fuzz
Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back

If the world was ending and I could only take 3 DVDs with me on the spaceship:
Ghostbusters
Hot Fuzz
Rushmore

Personally, I hated it. I don't have any problem with swearing (obviously, if Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back is one of my favorite comedies). But I just didn't like the characters, and I think I'm supposed to.:wtf: It's trying to portray drinking & mindless sex as some kind of noble quest. I never walk out on movies but I desperately wanted to walk out of this one. (I would have if the movie theater was on a bus line and I wasn't dependent on the other guy for a ride.)

Hmmm ... Movies - Young Frankenstein, Galaxy Quest, Flight of the Navigator

Funniest TV Series - Golden Girls, Big Bang Theory, Fox News.

The Philadelphia Story

That is an all-time classic.

Anyone who hasn't seen The Philadelphia Story should do so immediately. The acting and the dialogue are incredible.

One of my favorite movies of all time, a truly great (and hilarious) film - an incredible cast, at absolutely the top of their game (See my list under the thread re/favorite movies.)

Just three is REALLY hard.

The Gold Rush
Philadelphia Story
The Lady Eve

...to round off wirth a few more:

Some Like It Hot
Modern Times
Sullivan's Travels
Monty Python & The Holy Grail
Young Frankenstein
A Night At The Opera
Sherlock Jr
This Is Spinal Tap
Lost In America
Arsenic & Old Lace
The Lavender Hill Mob
Palm Beach Story
Duck Soup
Back To The Future

Honorable Mention:

Death At A Funeral
Galaxy Quest
A Fish Called Wanda
Hot Fuzz
Get Shorty
The Sure Thing
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
A Wedding

Superbad is kinda like Anchorman. It is funny the first time, but after that, you realize how stupid it truly is.
