^I really need to read some more Pratchett! Aside from his Long Earth books with Stephen Baxter I've only ever read Colour of Magic which was a long time ago. (I wouldn't say I didn't like it, but I found the humour a tad obvious)

I'm a little over a third of the way through Night Watch, and so far it's looking like one of the very best Discworld novels. It's been a while since I've devoted long stretches of time to reading, but doing so for this one is a pleasure.

I am listening to The Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham, narrated by Alex Jennings. I think the last time I read this book was about 25 years ago.

I had only read Moving Pictures and Mort, some years ago. Somebody I know who is a big fan told me that Pyramids is a great book for a Pratchett beginner-- unfortunately, B&N didn't have it, so I got Guards! Guards! instead. I'm enjoying it.

The Murder Pit...by Jeff Shelby. It's a murder mystery, yes; but without all the blood and gore...kind of reminds me of an Agatha Christie novel, or Angela Landsbury's Murder, She Wrote. I found it so enjoyable, that I'm now looking for the next book in the series...The Last Resort... I recommend this author. He's very good.

Just finished Hanging Curve, a baseball murder mystery set in 1922 St. Louis, shortly after labor/race riots destroyed one community. A series of arsons and beatings between a white baseball team associated with the Ku Klux Klan and a black baseball team threaten to throw the city into chaos again, but Browns player Mickey Rowlings has a suspicion that someone is manipulating the players. Very interesting book -- I read it for the baseball angle, but the amount of information on the "colored leagues" and the workings of the Klan is fascinating. I'd read more Soos if my library had him..
