Matt Scudder does like his payphones, and I'm glad that aspect came across in the film. One of these days I mean to reread all the Scudder books in publication order.
That's my plan too, a full reread of both the Scudder and Rhodenbarr series.

I've always been more of a Scudder fan than a Bernie R one, but that'd be good too, although I'm still not sure I've read all the Bernie Rhodenbarr novels a first time (they do follow a similar pattern which makes it hard to tell sometimes!)

I love Bernie! He was my gateway drug into Lawrence Block. Such a great writer, I try to read as much of his stuff as I can find. I read one of those sex books he wrote under a pseudonym.... not my thing.
Asimov's Foundation cycle, currently reading "Prelude To Foundation".
Coincidentally, the Modesty Blaise movie from the 60s is currently on TCM On Demand.

Is this your first time? Prelude was written DECADES after the original trilogy, so the style and the backstory are different. Also there's that annoying Jar-Jar creature..
^^ You're thinking of the Killer B's Second Foundation Trilogy. That had a lot of annoying Jar-Jar creatures.
