What are some tv shows you want to like but don't?

^ People were recommending The Big Bang Theory to me because of Sheldon being on the Autism spectrum and because I'm a nerd.

I watched Game of Thrones on my own, but can no longer support or enjoy the property because of the way that it ended.

Adding The Clone Wars. I just tried to continue for the fourth time. Officially calling it quits. Although I loved the final 4 episodes and can’t wait for the Ahsoka series.

I also kinda wanted to like TTBT but i got tried of them quickly. I totally stopped watching after season 3.

I also agree with you regarding GOT. It started as a good show but it got ruined by the final season.

Given my nerdery and the fact that I am on the Autism Spectrum, several people that I know intimately have told me that they think I would enjoy The Big Bang Theory, but I have little desire to actually watch the series.

I also wanted to continue enjoying Game of Thrones, but the way the creators ended the series made doing so impossible, and so I now have no interest in ever returning to that property or its setting (which is sad and deeply disappointing).

I tried watching a few episodes of Big Bang and I just had to turn it off since I found the jokes very lame and cringe-worthy.

Another show I’m going to add is The Spectacular Spider-Man. More like “The Spectacular Flop”! The animation was horrible and ugly and the scripts were poor rewrites of scripts from other Spidey cartoons like the 1994 series. There was no originality in the show.

Sheldon's not on the spectrum.

Sheldon's not on the spectrum.

Jim Parsons has said otherwise, so even if the character wasn't specifically written as being on the Spectrum, his behavior and characteristics are consistent enough with an Autistic diagnosis that it doesn't really matter.

He hasn't to my knowledge. IIRC both the writers and Parsons has said otherwise.

Wikipedia says this (albeit without citation): "although Parsons has said that in his opinion, Sheldon "couldn't display more traits" of Asperger's".

Regardless, the second part of my comment (his behavior and characteristics are consistent enough with an Autistic diagnosis that it doesn't really matter) still stands.

What does the show's press have to do with the show's story? How the show is promoted is immaterial to the direction the show should take, only what we saw on screen matters. People saw what they wanted to see in her, ignoring she was consistently cruel and sadistic to anyone who didn't worship her because they baselessly assumed she would only direct that cruelty at slave owners and other people who deserved it.

I agree it seemed rushed, and that was a mistake, but it wasn't a betrayal of the character, it was just failed pacing.

Completely agree. People saw in Dany what they wanted to see and ignored all the red flags that were there right from the beginning, forgiving her because the people she slaughtered were evil, and lets be honest, because she was pretty, because she'd endured terrible things and because she talked a good game about justice and breaking the wheel etc.

I'd agree the pacing was slightly off, but I doubt another episode or two of Dany descending into madness before the massacre would have convinced those who'd been seduced by the myth of Dany.

Repeating an argument that doesn't hold up isn't going to make it more credible.

Audiences saw Dany as a hero - and as a role model for women - because they were actively and deliberately encouraged to by the series' creators, and said creators encouraged that perspective knowing full well that they were perpetuating a deception.

Clone Wars, Rebels & Resistance, Lost In Space (both versions), Stranger Things, Lower Decks, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Hercules/Xena, Sapphire and Steel, The Office (UK-havent seen the US version), Phoenix Nights/Car Share, Seinfeld, Brooklyn 99...I'm sure there's more.

Just because that argument doesn't hold up for you, it doesn't mean it doesn't hold up for other people. I twigged early on that Dany wasn't remotely the heroic warrior for justice she appeared to be, she had a nasty vengeful side coupled with something of a messiah complex. I don't base this on what the creators were telling me, I based it on what the actor was showing me on screen. And tv and film is replete with characters portrayed as one thing who are really something else, it's about seeing the nuance in the actor's portrayal (although frankly a lot of things connected to Dany were blatant right from early on. I knew she had a messiah complex the moment she was carried aloft by all those freed slaves and I could see how much she was loving their adoration.)

As for the creators, they're under no obligation to tell the truth. (and didn't they say Jon was definitely dead and definitely wasn't coming back also?)

But I do appreciate that you see things very literally.

In terms of role models for women I'd say Sansa was a better one, brutalised even more than Dany and mostly left to fend for herself for the most part yet she still ended up in control of her own destiny (and lets be honest Sansa saw right through Dany from the start)
