What about age?

Hello fellow trekkers, i am a big star trek fan and i have 16 years old. Most of my colleagues are just mindless explosion-liker star wars fans (with a few exceptions).

So, i was wondering if there are other people with my age that still uses the mind and can understand the complexity of GOOD series like Star Trek, Stargate or Babylon 5...

Nothing wrong with explosions (well, unless you are in the middle of it). I like 'xplosions, and I'm 36. No reason why a good series can't have smart writing and cool visuals.

I like both Star Trek and Star Wars, but not B5 or Stargate (your other examples). People like different things, it's all good.

I'm 29, and let me tell you, I find the older I get the less tolerance I have for complicated storytelling. Mind you, I haven't sunk to the level of being entertained by Michael Bay's Transformers, but sometimes simplistic is better.

Of course, my main beef is all these shows which try to go for complex involved multi-year story arcs. But there you are.

Eh, it's just a phase Hollywood is going through. It'll pass. Hopefully. Although I DO love Babylon 5 almost as much as Star Trek. So I guess I can take it in small doses.

I'm 63, and I've been a science fiction fan since I was 8. Star Trek showed up when I was 15, and I've been a fan ever since.

What I like best in any genre are stories that make you use your brain a little bit when it comes to concepts being presented. But I still enjoy the occasional straight out action adventure format with mindless chases and explosions and stuff.

Been a Star Trek fan since around kindergarten and I'm proud to say that I've ALWAYS enjoyed Star Wars and Star Trek equally.

Star Wars is OK IMHO but I like Star Trek better. While I'm on the subject, the MCU has been steadily topping them both.

Love Star Trek. Have a passing interest in Star Wars. Think Babylon 5 is overrated, badly written ( mostly the dialogue) and unevenly acted. Stargate is a movie starring Kurt Russell. So you kind of lose me when the latter two are touted as "good". Oh and I'm 55.

I know it is good to have different tastes and series to like and everything. I may have expressed myself a little wrong there, it was in part a outburst.

It is just that i have noticed little interest in general sci-fi those last years of mankind, most people (here were i am) think that sci-fi is Star Wars and that's all... They don't even bother in knowing new series and stuff... That's very disappointing for one that is a sci-fi fan since 6 years old and is in the middle of teenage.

Again, sorry if i have offended somebody.

By the way, wen i say Stargate i'm referring to SG-1 and Atlantis, especially Atlantis (my favorite)

Good to see some younger Star Trek fans. I think I've seen the occasional younger fan around here. But I think a lot are scared off by us old fogies.

When I was teen, waaaaaay back in the 1970s, I didn't notice an over whelming interest in SF among my peers either. Just among my close friends. And we became friends because we shared an interest in SF. My goddaughter is 15 and went to a school dance recently dressed as distaff Loki ( her friend went as Captain America). The theme was "A Marvelous Time", though my goddaughter's interpretation of "marvelous" was not what the planners intended.

Me too, don't get me wrong, i do like Star Wars, as i said, it was more of a outburst... Just try imagine having to talk with people who watch the first Star Wars movie and think they know all about the franchise and then begin saying that is better than anything else just because that's what all "other" people say (and please consider that they have NEVER watched one episode of any other sci-fi thing)

Thanks! It's nice to have some other people that have the same kind of love for Star Trek that i do to talk to!

My fear trough, is that the franchise may be dying... That was mostly the reason i posted... (And because the outburst )
