Wesley's Second Season "Uniform."

I didn't mind the uniform except the pants were very high-waisted and I didn't like how they seperate at the top in the back. When he is standing it puckers out and looks really stupid. Here is a picture from the back:

& in this photo he look's like he is wearing a diaper:

That high waisted grey thing couldn't have been comfortable to wear. It looked as if he had a constant wedgie in that thing!

I always figured that the uniform was meant to designate people who were affiliated with Starfleet, but who were not regular members (but unlike civilians, who were not a part of Starfleet at all and who were working on Starfleet installations under some other sort of agreement). I guess the best analogy would be civilian workers for a police department or military-they have an attachment to the military/dept and a direct employment agreement, unlike, for example, the civilian contractors that form their food service and maintenance staffs.

Interesting take - akin to the difference in Britain between a police officer's uniform and that of a 'police staff' member who works at reception, or communications, or something. Granted, the difference is not as outspoken as Wesley's uniform compared to the standard duty uniform, but it is a different uniform, and distinct from the staff members who merely wear civvies.
For example, in the Thames Valley Police force, the police officer uniform is particularly distinct from that of police staff.

That photo even looks as if it has square patches of velcro or something sewn in at the back of the 'flaps' - suggesting they were most certainly deliberate.

Interesting....I guess when I watched TNG growing up I never thought about the fact that Wes should have been wearing some form of formal uniform. I never saw him as the totally annoying character many people did. When I watch reruns or pop in the random episode from early in the TNG run I actually like the character more and more.

Probably one of the few....

It was better than that fruity looking rainbow uniform he had around the second half of S1.

Note that that "fruity looking rainbow unifrom"'s stripes are of the department colors -blue, red and gold- suggesting his position as sort-of an intern or page. A floater between departments.

I'll add myself to it as well...

That's sort of how I took it - a uniform that was smart, but didn't affiliate him 100% with anyone who might get a bit mad at him wearing their department colours 'without earning them' as it were.
I guess the season 2 uniform achieves the same, really.

Maybe he was a little too fat for it to zip all the way up. It does look seriously ridiculous.
