Wesley's season one uniform?

They made him look like he was in Tears for Fears.

Oh my good, that makes me wish they would have tried to turn Wesley into a "teen heartthrob" like they had tried with Jekov and like given him ridiculously 80s feathered hair and a leather jacket and stuff.
That would have been hilarious! :guffaw:

I'm only asking this because it's very difficult to judge a person's tone over the internet but....

You're joking right? Because this was the show where the counselor sitting next to Picard ran around in turquoise dress and high heels..

you have to wonder what the rest of the crew made of that - she starts her posting in a standard duty uniform and then starts rocking up for shifts in causal clothes and high heels.

I assume at the time TNG takes place it was optional for a Counselor to wear civilian clothes on duity, at the captain's discretion at least.

Though it is kinda fun to imagine how Troi might have approached Picard about it, especially since we are talking about Season 1 Picard, who was a salty a*****e that could hardly stand those "people" things he had to share his ship with.

Did she even asking him or did she just show up on the bridge one day in her terrible, grey Season 1 suit with the pink crotch arrow?
Ugh they should have just added pants to her mini dress uniform and called it a day.

What's interesting is the evolution of greater casualness. After the skant, came the grey jumpsuits, which I suppose seemed somewhat professional... For their style anyhow, but then came the low cut mauve thing, which to a degree still kind of blended with the command folks... In a way

But by the time the form fitting teal evening gown thing started making it on the bridge, it's no wonder no one really had an issue with Jellico calling her out. They tend to dislike him for many other reasons, but that's not usually one of them lol

She'd been getting more lax every year. If it hadn't been for Jellico, God knows... She could've been on the bridge, wearing the yoga stretchies, from The Price, before long :rommie:

Well the dress was only used in Season 3 and 4, so maybe Picard did at one point tell her that it was a bit too much.
(Out-of universe it was because Marina Sirtis hated that dress, both due to the lop-sided cleavage and be cause it was really a jumpsuit with an in-built corset)

On the first day on board she sensed that people in general and Picard in particular would be more at ease with her being out of uniform, so she started wearing those outfits. Overtime she felt that the more revealing the outfit was the better the people would feel towards her.

In fact everyone felt totally awkward, especially Picard, but were afraid to call her out on it because they thought she would read in their mind what they were actually thinking, not knowing that Troi’s powers are totally imaginary and had been fooling everyone, especially her, for years.

I reiterate the comment I made last year:
There are several complaints about Crusher's clothing. I will add an observation:

I have dim memories of reading through notes about the Starfleet uniforms of the TNG era, and a designer noting that they put black at all the sensitive areas so that the tight-fitting jumpsuits wouldn't be... inappropriate.

It struck me as a bit strange, then, to have the child actor be the one in a suit that was equally tight but in less-forgiving light grey.

I can't seem to recall any in-universe reason given as to why at the start of season 2 Wes was changed into the more suitable gray uniform. It certainly looked better, & it made sense that he be given a more bridge appropriate outfit, in that Geordi was no longer at conn, & Wes had drastically increased his bridge exposure, in his place.

Likewise, it was also rather innocuous how the last time he wore it was Menage a Troi, & suddenly he's having dinner with Beverly, in a standard command red uniform, in Transfigurations. It makes sense for the show, in that soon Wes would be almost as tactical a part of the bridge crew as anyone else, once BoBW happens, but it just sort of happened, out of nowhere

Well, we did get the scene at the end of Menage a Troi (TNG) where he was formally promoted, so it wasn't really "out of nowhere" really:

INT. READY ROOM (OPTICAL)

PICARD: There is one more thing.

Picard looks up.

PICARD (cont'd): For some time now I have been contemplating a certain action. Your conduct today has convinced me to take that action.

Wesley stands mute, wondering if he's in trouble.

PICARD (cont'd) I've reviewed your service record thoroughly... and I've decided upon the appropriate course.

Is there a twinkle in Picard's eye?

PICARD (cont'd) I am granting you a field promotion to full Ensign.

Wesley's face lights up. Before Wesley can speak:

PICARD (cont'd) Congratulations. (a beat) You're dismissed.

And all because of Nepotism

Oh, I forgot about that scene being in that episode. I admit, I really don't rewatch that one much, for pretty obvious reasons lol

So that explains the switch to standard red. Still, I can't recall why the switch from the rainbow top to the grays in season 2... except that it obviously looked better. In fact, imho, it looks good enough to be considered a standard acting officer uniform, that might even have worked for the Ex-Maqui Voyager crew, had they wanted to go that route.

It's actually not all that different from Picard's casual uniform top, that he wore with the plush jacket

*Nods*

My assumption is that the s1 uniform is a civilian outfit that coincidently resembles the official uniform, but that the above outfit is an actual Starfleet uniform of some sort, mainly because it has it's own style of communicator (which IMO should have been used for anyone below full ensign going forward)

Wesley's season 2 jumpsuit did have one annoying feature however...

I know it's not really an American thing, but coming from the UK it always struck me as a bit like a primary school uniform (so 5-11 years old).
