I've usually seen the term “bouffant” applied to women's hairstyles, the kind where the hair is piled up and teased to within an inch of its life.

    Oh, and . . . boobies!

In a bouffant, I believe, the hair even hands loosely down the side, somewhat and in a pompadour the hair on the sides is combed into the style.

We could let this turn into a thoughtful discussion about the TOS episodes where Scotty had a pompadour. I think they were season 2 episodes, and only a handful.

When I was a teen, the pompadour was the look to be had. I have to admit that I was jealous of Wesley's 'do because it was always so damn perfect.

This is a very indulgent forum, that this thread is still alive. :D

I can't go against the hair. It commands me.

In fact, I think I might try to style my own hair into a modest pompadour tomorrow (I generally just comb it back normally, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to upcomb it slightly). How's THAT for doing my duty by the TNG forum... :D

I could quibble that there's a standing rule against expletives in thread-titles. Just saying. ;)

    ^Stop mini-modding. It's unbecoming of a Starfleet officer. Just saying. ;)

Some people call me Maurice when I speak of the pompadours of love.

Things this thread has taught me:

    1) a pompadour is a HARD hairstyle to do. I only have some lightish-hold soft wax handy, which is clearly not enough to do a pomp. I tried this morning and the upcombing just didn't work to give sufficient height relative to the sides.

    2) youtube has a rather odd selection of "how-to" videos of "greaser" and rockabilly guys demonstrating how they do their pompadours. Pretty funny stuff, really. Though the music ain't all bad. :D

(PS. if anyone actually is traumatized enough by the thread title to care about the minor infraction of the rules it represents, PM me and/or hit the notify button on the thread, and I'll stick an asterisk or two in the title to pacify the situation. But a bit of occasional leniency, esp. when it's actually part of the thread's gag, is good I think. I treat you guys as adults in the hope you'll behave likewise in return, which tends to work out pretty well in this particular subforum. Obviously, this isn't license to stick swearwords across every single thread title on the forum, but since adults wouldn't take a mile when given an inch like this, I don't expect that to happen.)

I've no problems with the expletive in the thread title, in fact I think it's an odd policy the board has against expletives in thread titles -but no problems with them in threads themselves. So it just struck me as odd that the expletive wasn't removed when in most other places it would be.

Kudos to you, Holdfast, for treating us like adults and leaving it in there. :)

Now, you being the resident fashion and style expert, do you agree that his hairstyle is more pompadour than bouffant?

    I said, Enter-P.R.I.S.E.
Let me tell you about my boy, his name's Wesley
Going to be in Starfleet Academy
But tonight he's getting crunk with yours truly
So we bust on down to the Forward Ten
Wes knows the bouncer and we get right in
We're knocking back shots of Cardassian gin
When up comes a fine-ass Romulan
When it comes to booty-shaking, girl's got a gift
'Cause she raised that ass like a turbolift
But yo, we ditched her face down in the mud
Because Wesley had his eyes on Ashley Judd

    Win.

Intent is half the case. Any TNG-watcher can relate to the content of this thread, which puts it totally in a separate league from the content of some random flamer. *shrug*
