See, I never had a problem with Wesley as I grew up around the same time Wheaton did, and I felt his character was meant to speak for me and other kids my age.He did a good job that he stayed on the series for four seasons nearly before being phased out with him going to Starfleet Academy. I missed him when he was gone in the later seasons, even with his occasional reappearances.

Didn't like him (not Will Wheatons fault) - was certainly a Mary Sue.

I don't like the funny animal or amusing robot in kids cartoons either...

So did I, but based on what he would later become, as opposed to what he started out as.

And thanks to Lt. LaForge for the kind comments.

I liked Wesley from the beginning. He spoke for my generation and I think it was quite daring for Gene to include a young, at-first non officer character on the show.

Um, honestly, at first I found him slightly irritating, and then time went on, he got older, and I started to find him more tolerable, but I think by the time that they started phasing(haha) him out, I was back to not liking him. I think his contempt for the show was all over his smug face. I think it's funny how he found Star Trek to be beneath him. Oh yeah, what have you done with your career since, Mr. Wheaton? Exactly...

Though, I do have to say, for all the "younger" characters of the different Star Trek series, he could have been a lot worse.

It is called acting, that is what he was doing. The character became smug and indifferent to Starfleet by series end. Wheaton was just acting, only acting. He was not smug in real life. He got shafted in fact by Berman ever since Gene died, so that could be why he was not to your liking and he was not as happy seeming as when he started out.

I liked Wesley. When I first started to watch TNG, I was not much older than him....so I guess I understood him. Some of my favorite episodes he is a central part of, not the main character in the episode but an important part.
I love that he has taken to the Wesley part of his life on The Big Bang Theory.

Apparently Wesley is very hot in Kindle land right now..

Warning this is NSFW and if you are delicate don't look at it. Spoiler tag contains link only.

Wheaton's response did crack me up.
