Weren't the nineties great?

They were just fun times. It seems the fun is gone now. Or maybe I grew up and lost it somewhere.

For me the end of the good times occurred right around the time NAFTA was signed into law.

Overnight much industry around here ground to a halt and fled to Mexico on the flimsiest excuse, we had 200 plastic factories here when I moved in, A year later we had 10.

Things started picking up again only to have things flee to China in 2002.... Went from 15 plastic factories and over a hundred tool-and-die/metal shops to less than a dozen viable manufacturing companies.

Really pisses me off, we start recovering from that and now things grind to a halt because of the automotive market crash.

Optics is the "next big thing" but I don't want to get involved I'm going to ride my industry into the ground... Soon as they relax transfer-of-sensitive-technology laws (even further) optics will fly overseas to China.

I assume you're in upstate NY? I've been going up there for work since the mid-90's and from what I understand it's not just companies that were leaving, but people have also been leaving in droves because of the lack of work. True or am I mistaken?

Most of the folk my age have left, leaving the very young and the older folk behind and that makes things... difficult for our 30 somethings.

The 90s sucked, especially the music. There were some good books and TV shows and stuff, but overall it was not the greatest decade I've seen. I suppose the best thing about it was that it made the 80s seem not so bad. :rommie:

Actually the 80's were even better than the 90's. This is what life has taught me. The further back in time you go, the better life is.

Yeah. They were. We had cool stuff like Miami Vice. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Thundercats. We had V and Beauty and the Beast. Cable came into its own. I was making less money but was able to buy more stuff. The music was definitely better. I traveled all the time. The 80s' rocked.

Wow..for me, no the 90s weren't great.

I guess it all depends on what you like, but I feel that basically all art, music, TV, movies, books etc. started on a downhill sprial in the late 80s that continued throughout the 90s. The only good thing I can say about the 90s is that they were better than the 00s were.

Okay I'm gone, everybody go back to having fun! ;)

My greatest nostalgia is for the 80's, but the 80's also had the worst years of my life. The stuff we had in the 90's wasn't as cool, but then again some of the best years of my life were in the 90's. So you can see my dilemma.

Rap was certainly a lot better in the 90's compared to now. Especially in the late 80's, early 90's, real rap. Yeah, I listened to it, and it was good, not this crap we have now that all the teens listen to, they have no idea what real rap is.

Overall, yeah, the 90's were very cool. I was 10 in 1990 so this was the decade where I came into my own. The music was good, the clothes were flashy, and portable CD players were all the shiznit, also, no cell phones, they were rare, kids and teens certainly didn't have them, also, MTV was still good, AOL was still good and computer gaming was being born. I definitely loved the 90's.

the 00s are terrible, even the way the digits look on a page, the 90s have a slinky cool leopard appearance to them, the 00s look frumpy dumpty.

I spent most of my childhood in the nineties, but oddly enough, I have much more of a warm cuddly feeling of nostalgia for the eighties. That's because I was a pop culture luddite as a kid. I rejected it out of hand because I was an insecure nerd who saw himself as being above anything (ugh, I hate to even utter the word) mainstream.

It wasn't until I began to find confidence in myself as a late teen that I was able to find a pop culture groove I liked and embrace it. By then, the 2000's had already started.

So, in conclusion, I look back at the nineties as being mostly lame.

Rap was certainly a lot better in the 90's compared to now. Especially in the late 80's, early 90's, real rap. Yeah, I listened to it, and it was good, not this crap we have now that all the teens listen to, they have no idea what real rap is.

This is true, though I don't think any rap has ever been all that good. Black people made better music in the 50's and 60's. Oops, I forgot to couch that in our beloved 90's "Multiculturalism, Yeah!" Political Correctness. :D

The 90s were OK, I suppose. The early 90s were a different beast to the mid 90s and the late 90s in my mind. (I think I mentioned something like this in another thread about the 90s somewhere...)
agreed. The 90s were fun, but cant beat the 80s and the thermo sensitive shirts and big hair. Hell the 80s brought Aquanet back from the brink of bankruptcy.

Ah, the Global Hypercolor T-Shirts. I had two of them. They stopped working on 1st January 2000. :guffaw:

what about those wrist bands you would slap on your arm and they would form a circle to fit around your wrist, those were big in the 90's, a fad, I had several colors

I think that I wore pretty much non-stop Ocean Pacific T-Shirts during the 80's. Except when I was in my hair-metal phase.

'80s pop culture + '90s economy + '00s technology = The Best Decade

Ahh the good old 90's i kinda remember them well. got my first real girlfriend, first break up, stoned for the early part of it then got my first proper job which i'm still in now.
great music and films. sometimes wish it was those days again.
