Spoilers Were the Voth Federation members before the Burn?

Assuming the Federation spread throughout the Delta Quadrant and into the entire Galaxy, as hinted by the star charts seen in the preview for the next episode, i wonder what the relationship between the UFP and the Voth might be like and if they were even members.
 
The Voth realized Earth was their home, then caused the Burn so humanity would be decimated and they could easily retake the planet, but had to go back to the Delta Quadrant when humanity built Jaegers that had more attitude than they could handle.

Or not. ;)

They’re pissed at those stupid Earth monkeys with clothes for not coming up with a better propulsion system in 1,000 years.

In the novels (which aren't canon), the Voth apparently did become allies with the Federation in the 27th century.

In canon? Not sure.
Its possible something like that might happen... but the Voth have demonstrated to be relatively... stubborn. It took them a long time to change their doctrine which had to have been amended with development of Transwarp alone... something as 'existential' as Earth being their ancestral home might take a while.

I would imagine that while its possible the majority of the Galaxy got absorbed into the Federation, its also possible that some major powers would prefer to exist separately (possibly as allies... like the Klingons have with the Federation in the 24th century).
Namely, Federation citizens can freely move to allied species space, live and work there if they choose and starships would have free access to allied species space for exploratory services (and likely basic defense if it doesn't cause interference in internal matters - rendering humanitarian aid, disaster/relief efforts, etc.).

Also, if the galaxy did enjoy centuries of peace and stability as part of UFP, once the Burn occurred, it may have fractured like it was shown initially, but its also possible its previous members would WANT to become members again (after all, whatever grievances previous species may have had with UFP, they would have been long forgotten by then).

And yet, the Federation (technically) had the Spore Drive since the 23rd century.
Faster and more efficient than Transwarp as the technology was used by the Voth and Borg.
 
If you use the spore drive wrong, you kill mushroom civilizations, and maybe even blow up the entire multiverse.

Saru should shut up about his spore drive in the 31st century.

If the 31st centurians are not smart enough to invent their own spore drive, they are not responsible enough to use it.

Well, the UFP doesn't use the Spore Drive incorrectly. Mushroom civilizations are safe now for the most part, and as far as the multiverse is concerned, I think that's safe considering that they only use it to get around places (so they coast the network), technically speaking, lets give Starfleet a little bit of break here.
The possibilities with spore drive are quite extensive, but realistically, they've just started using the thing (time frame-wise)... whereas the Voth and Borg both had TW capabilities/experience for a LONG time (centuries).

Considering Starfleet (or more to the point, Discovery) has been using this technology for roughly 3 years, I think they're doing alright.

Plus, Starfleet/Federation with 32nd century knowledge would easily be able to make using the spore drive easier, safer and make sure that it doesn't do any harm.

Plus, we don't know whether TW also causes untold extinction of subspace civilizations or damages the multiverse - thus far, we hadn't.

We don't know that the Federation is still the Federation, and even so what their life expectancy is.

Remember the 1990 concerns we all had about soviet nukes being claimed by weirdos who couldn't handle the maintenance, and might just sell them to terrorists.

If the 31st century Federation is moment's from falling... Who the heck knows where all their ships and ordinance is going to wind up?

I'd love to find out. Would love to see the Voth again in Disco too. I'd also like more mentions of what happened to all the galactic powers we knew in the TNG/DS9/VOY era.
 
It's probably been about 12 years since I've seen "Distant Origin" (VOY). But my impression of the Voth (from very faded memory) was that they wouldn't be too crazy about Humans. So I don't see them joining the Federation. They'd have to have a serious change in attitude. Is it possible? Sure. But I don't see it.

But now that Earth is no longer part of the Federation, much less the seeming center of it, I could see the Voth joining the V'Draysh.

Yeah, given how rigid and inflexible and isolationist the Voth were and their general distain for mammalian species, I doubt they would have given the Federation the time of day. The Voth were also thousands if not millions of years ahead of the Federation technologically. Even allowing for thousands of years of stagnation, as was intimated in the episode, they were probably well in advance of even 30th century Starfleet. I don't think they would have been openly hostile but I feel like the federation would get left on read whenever they tried instant messaging the Voth.

The 31st centurions are the descendants of the 23rd ones so they have as much right to the spore drive as Discovery do a warp drive invented by their ancestors
