Were other casts as close as the TNG cast are?

It seems the TNG cast are almost like a second family. But were the other casts as close?

I think that cast was the closest as a whole, although perhaps some closer relationships developed on other ST shows between one or two castmembers.

If I were one of the cast on TNG, I don't think I'd be closed to Patrick Stewart. He would probably called me pretty boy and make fun of how young I look considering my age...damn bloody English! Aggh! I've been mistaken for minor before even though I was probably one of the oldest male at work. You know how those bloody English are?!

The TNG cast seemed to be the most difficult to deal with for directors. The DS9 cast seemed to be less close, but more professional.

Except for Shatner and Nimoy, I never got the impression that the TOS cast were particularly close.

But then, I haven't read all of their tell-all books, so...

I think Michael Dorn said the DS9 cast wasn't exactly as tight-knit as the TNG cast. I think he said TNG was like going to a party every day, while DS9 was like another day in the office.

With TOS, Shatner and Nimoy are of course best friends, and I think George Takei and Walter Koenig are good friends as well.

Don't really know much about the Voyager or Enterprise cast's interactions with each other.

Supposedly of the TOS case, Koenig, Takai and Doohan were close, with Nichols a little standoffish. Koenig wisely didn't make any waves with The Shat, while the rest of the "Little Four" almost made it a point to not get along with him for various reasons. Nimoy seems to have gotten along with everyone and in fact went to bat for them to be used in TAS. Koenig wasn't, but he did manage a writing credit.

Duh! I how could I forget DeForest, the soul of TOS? Yes, a great man and everyone loved him.

I remember as a little kid being kind of sad when I found out the TOS cast weren't all best friends.

It seems to me like the friendship dynamic of TOS was Shatner/Nimoy and then everyone else in terms of closeness, and DeForest Kelley was somewhere in the middle. That's not to say Nimoy wasn't friends with Takei or anything like that, but that was just the dynamic I took from the series.

I have no idea about the other shows, but I'm not super-shocked to hear DS9 wasn't especially close. I'm also not surprised that TNG were. I always got that impression from interviews, convention footage and the like.

The TNG cast were the first to break the ice on the "next wave" of Star Trek. I think that made them feel a bit special, especially once momentum really kicked in during the 3rd season. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit more catering to the cast, doing what it takes to make them feel comfortable. DS9 was faced with a very tall order, having the success of TNG to measure up to. Especially since it was running simultaneously for a bit. I wouldn't doubt that there was a lot of pressure on them. And if a "mostly work, not much play" culture got started, it would be hard to change. Some of the episodes looked very complicated... I wonder if it was a harder series to film compared to TNG?

I wouldn't doubt that some of the cast members got along really well both on and off the set, across all of the series. But in general, it looks to me like the TNG cast was more of a family than the others.

I know most of the Voyager cast meet up whenever they can. The male cast members seem to enjoy each others company and Bob Picardo and Ethan Philips are good friends.

I`ve heard that too. They`ve been very close.

Who from the old days, cast and/or crew, are you still in touch with?
Wang: I'm happy to say I still keep up with all the men of Voyager. We have been meeting for dinner at the same restaurant every three to six months since Voyager stopped filming. It's great because we get to reminisce about the old days and catch up on current news. Lots of laughter at dinner. The ladies of Voyager, on the other hand, not so much. It's usually at a random convention appearance that I will run into Kate (Mulgrew), Jeri (Ryan) or Jennifer. Unfortunately, I have only had email correspondence with Roxann (Dawson). Also, I used to meet a couple of the crew guys for golf, but that's fallen by the wayside now.
