We're getting...OLD

eh.. I don't feel like I'm getting old. I have indoctrinated my kids into Trek, they are primarily DS9 fans but have seen all of DS9, VOY and now ENT with some 2 seasons of TNG. Finally fixed my vcr and started them on my TOS tapes. I told them "this is your history, the FOUNDATION upon which all the other shows rests". Throughout our viewing I point stuff out that was later referred to in the other series. While there was some carping about bad effects I must report that they frequently express awe at Kirk's cleverness. This is how it should be.

The youth of today need education!

Speak for yourself, Rob Scorpio! I'm not getting older -- I'm getting better! (Or is that weirder?) -- RR

My 13 year old daughter saw me watching an episode of TNG and asked if that was the original Star Trek. I told her no, TNG was from the 80's. Then I realized when I was 13 TOS had been off the air for 3 years.

When you're old enough to remember the Dinky Toys die-cast ships from the very first movie on store shelves and pegs along with ST:TMP Silly Putty eggs in movie packaging? You're old enough.

When you're old enough to remember the disc-shooting "phaser" toys on the shelves at the Woolworth's, then you're old enough. :)
When I was a kid and my friends and I would play "Star Trek", we would use those little rubber coin purse things the banks used to give out for free. You know, the ones that you would sqeeze to get it to open up kind of like a mouth? They kind of looked like phaser I. I had one of those guns that shot discs, but it was obviously just something they had stamped the Trek name on. Anyway, I'm really starting to feel old now.

Don't worry! I'm only 24 and I'll keep spreading the TOS love. We actually watched an episode at work the other day and most of the crowd (age average = roughly 22) wanted to watch another. Many of them had never seen it before. So, I would guess that the interest is there, but there's simply not enough exposure anymore.

I can't believe I'm considering 34 old. Damn, my opinion of myself isn't what it used to be.

So long as I have a Sharpie and access to my birth certificate, I'll always be 18.:shifty:
