Well it's certainly a day from h3ll

Anyone want to trade days. In the last 4 hours:

-- My father was taken to the hospital with chest pain, and they found out he needs emergency heart surgery right now.

-- I was told by my mother not to come up there (long story)

-- One of my cousin's is in the same hospital prepping to have both his legs removed due to a massive infection that won't respond to drug treatments and is spreading.

-- Other cousin's husband just died this morning.

-- And just got called: My uncle just had a stroke at home, and the paramedics don't expect him to make it.

And yes I'm online cause I've been told to keep my nose out of "family" business.

Gee nice bucha people. If it was me I'd set fire to something or possibly steal a lawn tractor.

"keep out family business" bugger that.

Well I've been on the outs off and on for a while, but mostly "on" since I disowned my meth dealing pot head multi-timed arrested and convicted cousin who threatened to attack my wife for turning him into the cops. "Don't you know, he just needs someone to accept and understand him"

Nice to know where I finally stand with this bunch. I'm going up in a bit to check on my father; I actually told me wife to get ready with bail money.

:guffaw:Are you serious? *sorry to laugh* but that sounds like everyday life for a lot of people in the south!

Nope, not kidding. Of course he's the family's pet "cause". Hell, he got busted for meth and pot the day he was baptized in my Uncle's (who vouched for him being on the straight and narrow) church.

Oh my.. you are not having a great time..

Hope it goes well.

Take care of yourself, if you arent allowed to take care of the others.

In family situations like the one you describe, it is often difficult to be quiet and compassionate now, when faced with people routinely making bad choices. Now is not the time to judge them for their choices. Now is also the time to walk away if your support is not wanted.

Visit all that you feel comfortable visiting. Disregard the "nose out of family business" nonsense, but do not judge the family business. Just be there for them, and make your willingness to be supportive known.

Sometimes a person like you, who is clearly on the outside, can make a world of difference amongst the nonsense of the "family business."

Do you know what type of infection your cousin has and what they did for him? It just seems kind of scary that people in the 21st century are having their legs amputated for infections. Definitely something I would like to avoid if I can.

My best wishes to your father though. That kind of thing can be a real blessing though. My father was in the hospital for simple heart tests. While there he collapsed and they discovered he had to have emergency bypass surgery. He lived another 25 years after that.

Wow, that's horrible. I'm very sorry for your troubles. I hope your Dad will be okay, as well as your cousin and uncle. Good luck to all concerned. :(

:guffaw:!!! I'm sorry but I just have to laugh at that. Especially the first paragraph. Sounds like you DO deal with stuff that we deal with in the south all the time. That really sucks, man. And I thought I had MY share of family problems! This just beats mine by two miles!:)

Just got back from the hospital:

-- Dad's fine. Severe blockage, but they got it cleared and place a stint. He'll be on medical supervision for about 6 weeks while they dial in his medication and he loses weight, home in 2 to 3 days if he shows progress. Right now, we're trying to get him to understand that his diet's got to radical change and that no he can't have a "treat" every once and a while.

-- Cousin lost one leg, and the foot on the other, no information on the type of infection as far as the nurse would tell me; and his family really isn't the open type.

-- We don't know now if my uncle had a stroke or not. He's not at the hospital, not at home, and the cousin that was staying with him (he has to have assistance at home) is claiming it was all a prank to see if he [the cousin] could "get" people. My aunt is going out there now to find out what's really going on and where the fuck my uncle is.

Jerry Spring ain't got nothing on us. There's a reason that most of my generation (I'm the oldest of the current grandkids) spend their lives trying to get the hell out of the family mess.

Good to hear your dad's prognosis is good.
Best of luck to you and yours.

Keep us posted on the stroke/no stroke/missing uncle.

Well, glad to hear of your family's progress at least. Hope your father comes home soon from the hospital. At least he didn't need open heart surgery! Mom had to have that done in 2007..it was the scariest time of my life cause the doctor didn't really know what to do with her at first since she had six bipasses done! She was in the hospital for about three weeks total. It was the longest three weeks of my life..I lost sleep and 20lbs because of it.

You need someone to turn your family into a movie or a TV series. You'll have to change the names and a lot of the situations so they don't realize what's going on and try to sue you, of course.
