*** I, the TBBS poster known as SB, had a vision. ***
(Perhaps it was the wormhole aliens. Who knows? Those beings work in mysterious ways. But back to the programme...)
*** A vision of a place where Trek and SF fans of all persuasions could meet, talk, and understand each other, unburdened by the divisions that wrack so much of fandom. A place where people can focus on what they have in common, regardless of whatever may – superficially – divide them. I saw such a place. It was good. But the Promenade shopkeepers decided it had been there too long, and it closed.
Now it has a successor. ***
Be honest.
You saw who started this and the first thought that crossed your minds was "it's the end of the forum – nay, the world - as we know it." Well, that's the intention.
Or, more seriously, it isn't.
While at first glance it may seem like the TBBS equivalent of a vegan running a butcher's shop, it makes a certain kind of sense. My understanding of this bar thread idea is creating a place for fans – Niners mostly, but perhaps others as well - to get together and talk about stuff. As I have been made so very welcome here, I feel it's appropriate to return the gesture in this small way.
So I hereby extend an invitation:
Don't wander aimlessly about the Promenade, wasting time in conversation with Morn at Quark's or having that new suit fitted by that Cardassian bloke. Come one, come all to this – you new place to kick back, relax, pull up a chair, and talk about whatever's on your mind. Life, the universe, SF – heck, even Trek if that's what takes your fancy. Leave your worries at the door and relax among friends. I've tried it. It works.
