Browncoat love baby!!! Shiny!!! You can't take the sky from me!!!!

 :p  :p

Nah, I'm not a big, head-over-heels fan either (ok, maybe I am), but the trailer was excellent. I have mixed feelings about the use of the "cult phenomenon" and the critical praise. I can understand people's concerns that non-fans would see all the praise for a series that suffered a quick death and roll their eyes. But I'm hoping it'll garner some Matrix-similar attention and encourage some folks to review this series. I guess plenty of sci-fi gets treated like a "cult classic", so maybe this type of highlighting is the way to go.

Heck, anything that will put butts in the seats (w/out compromising the quality story of Firefly of course) is fine with me!

^ The trailer was definately very shiny. :D And damn I can't wait to see the movie.

And I thought the whole "cult phenomenon" thingy was quite well done. :)

Well, the Firefly trailer forced me to rent all four discs of the series to start my summer out. They are all in my blockbuster queue right now. :D

My friend, you won't be disappointed

I like the "cult phenomenon" reference actually. It was getting on these boards that had me start questioning it. I really need to spend less time looking at negative opinions!

Not that this is (exactly) related to my last statement, but I actually kinda enjoyed ENT's "In a Mirror Darkly". It was just a hodgepodge of campy, stupid antics for no good reason, and I could go for that. It's a shame when regular eps have the same problem and try to give a serious reason for it! But when you know it's all a gag and a twist on reality anyway, why not have some fun? MU Archer seems to have a bit too much of a conscious for me still; what's with leaving all his prisoners alive? But he pulls enough sneaky stunts to make up for it. I'm looking forward to Pt 2.

Ol' HOshi sure gave us a new meaning for her name, huh?

Yeah, same here. I mean it was lame, but it was still fairly entertaining in a campy sorta way. :)

It's a sci-fi series without aliens. Some people call if a western in space, and they're kinda right. :) Basically, it's a really wonderful show with great characters and awesome writing, that got cancelled way too early. Millions of millions of fans around the world can confirm that. You really should check it out.

And it's a pretty small financial outlay too, GG. The entire show is only about 13 episodes...so you can buy the DVD set fairly cheap...and see the whole thing without...oh...say a $700 outlay. ;)

Man, paying $700 for my DS9 set really opened my eyes to the kind of things I'm willing to part with my money over. I mean, I STILL love my DS9 set and do not regret buying it, but it sure made me rethink when I say something costs to much.

Firefly is a great character series in a day when TV characters seem to play second fiddle to plot devices, lotsa action or gratuitous sex. I enjoyed it cause Whedon gave all 9 main characters unique, unforgettable qualities. I also enjoy his "rustic" look at living in the future. I wasn't into the western appeal at first, and sometimes it is overdone. But I grew to love the roughing it feel, as though this crew were really trying to make it in a future where the "futuristic" comforts are only available to those who want to fall in line in the system. And then only if they're lucky.

I've wanted to see a series of Trek from a civilian's POV. For example, I'd love to see even just 1 season of Captain Kassidy Yates and the crew of the Xhosa. Firefly gave me that kind of perspective.

^ Once again...if you enjoy a harsher view of the future than Trek presents...you REALLY need to see B5. :p ;)

^Oh shut up :p

I actually like the Trek mentality the most, that we humans are meant to evolve and grow and continue to become better people. But I like the DS9 take on that mentality which is that we're better, but not perfect. So, I'd love to see how civilians in this great Federation of ours handle it.

And this is B5, eh? Honestly, one of the things that turned me off about it at first was the military focus. I'm a bit tired of the military perspective in sci-fi. But I've seen that B5 is probably more like DS9 in how they approach it, which is real loosely and with a lot of civilians to even things out! O.... K.... I'll see it. Heck, I may even pay to see it! ;)

Well, I saw part two of In A Mirror Darkly and I'm sorry to say that while it was decent, it was kind of a let down from part one. The first half hour was a bit of a waste mainly since it was made to let the Star Trek fanboys piss in thier pants (No offence) and hell, Spoiler:
That was a crappy looking Gorn. It reminded me of a Volociraptor from Jurassic Park, even though the Raptor was so much better. What the heck was this thing?
. After that the plot started to get interesting with Archer and Harvey, ah I mean his conscience and him becoming so obsessed with his mission. I did like the shots with the Defiant. Hell, all the stuff that was "Star Trek" looking really looked great in this modern day episode. I do wonder if this means that Star Trek will always be timeless. ;)

The ending was interesting, and the continuity was pretty good.

Overall, since it really doesn't matter and it was a "fun" episode, I would give it a B.

I thought the entire epsiode was, well... too fanboy-ish. Didn't much care for it. The Gorn...? Why was that even in the episode (aside from attemping to tie in Enterprise with other Treks)? If Enterprise was truely great, then it wouldn't need to make such blatant attempts to force itself into Trek history.

*sigh*

I expect to go into the Enterprise forum and see 14 billion "A+++++++++++!!!!!!!!" posts though.

Yeah, the whole Gorn thing was a bit of a waste. You bring up exactly why I don't like ENT even though I have seen 2 episodes this season. It's trying way to hard to be a prequal to trek that I don't know what the show as an individual is. Wasn't one of the problems people had with trek that various series tried too hard to be something they were not. TNG in the first 2 seasons was too much like Star Trek and was creamed for it. DS9 in the first season was too much like TNG and got creamed for it. Voyager, while a decent series was too much like TNG and is getting crapped on because of it. The reason series like TNG and DS9 were so great was because while they were in the trek universe, they were thier own unique series that developed it's own characters and own ideas/plots.

Now we have Enterprise, which is not allowed to have a unique identity because it has to tie in to the original. It got crapped on for being too much like Voyager, and now people love it like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread because it's trying to be like the original. I see contradiction here and I'm a bit confused. In a way, it's really appropriate that These are the Voyages will have some TNG members in it. ENT was never allowed to be it's own series so it really doesn't deserve it's own finale.

I expect to go into the Enterprise forum and see 14 billion "A+++++++++++!!!!!!!!" posts though.

Yeah, I go in there after I see both episodes, and see so many A+'s in there for some reason. They are all so giddy over the gorn (Like I said, piss in pants) but I come away from the episode just underwhelmed. I give it the B because it was the mirror universe and the Defiant sets looked cool, but based on what I've seen with the characters and the show itself, based on the two episodes I've seen (And I plan to see the rest of the season and the reruns during the summer), same shit different year.

I kind of wish they would do the grading threads in the General Trek forum. I think there would be a more accurate reading, but the mods are picky about what forums threads belong to, unfortunatly. (Vash, I'm not talking about specific mods, just general based on what I've seen on this board, so don't worry. ;) In fact, I would say you are the best mod, because you do allow us to talk about life and Enteprise in here and I thank you for that. :) )

Yeah, we all love Vash for being such a wonderful mod.

Just make sure you never make it on her list.

:D

But yeah, I thought last night's ep of Enterprise kinda sucked. Most of it felt kinda boring and useless.

I'm sure I'm on this list. After all those anti-Orlando comments, how could I not be? :D

Good point - I'd never thought of the show in quite that way before...

I think everyone is on her list for one reason or another. Some of us are so special we're on it multiple times! :p
