Weird Star Trek rumors

I suspect that many people believe the Cattrall rumor just because of her character on Sex and the City.

Well, considering that the rumor existed seven years before Sex in the City did, I find this unlikely.

As for Nimoy supposedly destroying the pics, even if they had existed: Why would he do that? Not only was ST VI not his film to direct...

Nimoy was the executive producer. So in a very real sense it was "his film." And he was trying to preserve the integrity of the franchise. Trek has traditionally been family entertainment. Nude photos in Vulcan makeup on the actual bridge set send a decidedly different message.

there wasn't even a Web at that time - let alone social media - so it'd be a lot harder to leak the pics over the internet. Although I suppose Usenet could have managed.

:wtf: You really think that there was no way to distribute nude photos before the internet was commonly used?

For the record, here are the first four paragraphs of Mark Altman’s article on STVI in the April 1992 issue of Cinefantastique:

Many strange occurrences have taken place on the bridge of the starship Enterprise in the last 25 years as it boldly went where no man, and subsequently no one, had gone before. But few events have been more bizarre than a day near the completion of principal photography on STAR TREK VI during which Kim Cattrall, who essays the role of Lt. Valeris, boldly went where no woman had gone before.

On the empty bridge set of the Enterprise on Stage 8 of the Paramount lot, Cattrall, a London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts graduate and PORKY’S star, was said to have stripped off her Starfleet uniform and peeled off her undergarments to assume a number of positions across the helm, draping herself over the Captain’s chair wearing nothing but her prosthetic Vulcan ears as a photographer snapped pictures of the actress
au naturel.

While Spock may have been disturbed when he discovered that his love Valeris was the treacherous plotter seeking to prevent an alliance with the Klingons, the conspirator’s pointy-eared counterpart was considerably more disturbed, according to a source on the production, when he found out about this strange new world of Vulcan biology. The usually stoic and unemotional Vulcan—in the guise of Leonard Nimoy, also the film’s executive producer—was enraged.

“Nimoy saw them and hit the roof,” said one member of the crew. Nimoy was said to have personally ripped up all the negatives from Cattrall’s very unauthorized photo session, fearing harm to the franchise if they ever became public. Said Cattrall tersely, when asked about the special photography, “I can’t talk about that.”

Hardly sounds like she was just "playing coy" when asked the question, no?

Perhaps Cattrall was just taking the pictures for her personal use, and didn't even intend them for public viewing or publication. Still, Nimoy clearly saw the potential controversy if the photos did leak somehow, so he took action.

there would be no way to keep it a secret, somebody would have talked. It would be then not just a weird rumor but established fact.

Obviously, one of the crew members did talk, not long after the filming. That's why Altman led his story with it. And when asked to comment, Cattrall didn't say, "I don't know what you're talking about," deny it, or make a joke about it. Instead, she said, "I can't talk about that." It sounds to me like she's confirming that something along those lines did happen, she got in trouble for it, and she'd be digging an even deeper hole for herself if she talked about it further. I'm thinking that somebody had words with her about the incident.

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

What about the story that Kim Cattrall took nude photos on the bridge set during The Undiscovered Country filming? The story goes that Leonard Nimoy was offended and had the film destroyed.

I've read the story many places, including here:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102975/trivia

But it sounds made up to me.

Oh, that would have been awesome.
Preferable to John De Lancie's au natural appearance in Deja Q? ;)

I could have sworn the Catrall rumor was in one of the main casts auto-bios. I don't remember which one though...

As for why Nimoy would destroy the pics (if they existed) - because he felt they would tarnish Trek's image. And why him and not Meyer? Leonard was executive producer of that film. He was Meyer's boss. He was being entrusted to shepherd the original crews last voyage.

I heard that Paramount even considered/offered him that post as head of Trek overall after Roddenberry died, but he declined.

I said "a lot harder", not "impossible".

You also said "over the internet." That's the part I was disputing. There were other avenues to distribute them, if that was even her intent (and I'm not convinced that it was).

Vulcan males have bifurcated penises similar to those of marsupials such as kangaroos. Not sure where that meme came (sic) from. If canonical, would it imply that Vulcan females have two lateral vaginas and a median vagina, also as in marsupials?

Also, marsupial males have their testicles in front of their penis rather than behind.

A year ago or so there was a rumor going around that an actress had been cast to play Deanna Troi in the new Trek movie. I haven't heard anything about that in ages though.
I was hopeful that if/when the TOS reboot movies ended we might get a TNG reboot because why not.

IIRC in 'The Making of Star Trek' this was mentioned. Some woman wrote in asking that (to paraphrase) "Certain parts of the male anatomy become red when blood infused them, she was wondering of, since Spock had green blood, would 'his' be green?' The writer went on to say that while they felt it would probably not be green, there was considerable speculation that it was 'forked'.
The inference was about the tongue if you had a clean mind, elsewhere if you did not.

People who giggle about the word penis need therapy.

You could see Spock's tongue when he spoke, and it wasn't forked.
So... um, yeah. :wtf:

Not a rumor, since it's true, but at one point they where working on having Eddie Murphy be in Star Trek IV. We would have seen little to none of the crew, with the focus on him being a sort of nutty professor convinced aliens had landed. It would have been horrible, to say the least. Think "Superman 3" Richard Pryor with Star Trek.
