Weird Logos from the Books?

No, but that's the point -- that they didn't use the YA Academy branding because it could attract young readers to a book that wasn't aimed at them.

Honestly, I doubt the YA branding would have confused consumers; bookstores, in my experience, shelved the YA books pretty far away from the mass-market science-fiction section. On the rare occasions that I bought a YA Trek book, I had to go into the Kids section and hunt for it. When I bought The Best and the Brightest, it was on the same shelf where I'd have found Greg Cox's Assignment Eternity or Mike Friedman's Planet X.

I was just thinking, would the logos from the two “Giant” novels, ‘Strangers From The Sky’ & ‘Final Frontier’ count as “weird” Trek logo’s? They’re kind of based on the logos used for the movies, with the tail on the “S”, but then they slant down and there’s no tail on the “K”.

I get that, though I can see how my wording doesn't indicate that. I mean more like, "I get that Prometheus has a fire theme, but STILL! It looks ridiculous."

I guess I probably shouldn't admit this, but I always liked the Prometheus logo on the German editions. Was disappointed they dropped it for the English versions.

I thought I had mentioned it on the board somewhere, but after extensive searching, I can't find it, so maybe I never did? But the specific typeface used for the German logo doesn't seem to be a traditional typeface at all (although the letter shapes might be based on one?). It appears to be a series of individual letter images by Mikhail Bakunovich, which can be licensed through Shutterstock, and other similar stock image services. It seems to simply be called (appropriately enough) "fiery font". You can see the individual letters here (although please note that since it is not organized in a collection of its own, there are images from other "typefaces" mixed in further on in the search results).

The duller Prometheus logo on the English language versions appears to be a weight of Trade Gothic... I think Standard Bold Condensed.

(Also, nice find on the "Seven" font! I didn't know that one!)

Thanks for the tips!

I was tipped off on Seven by a decade old thread here, actually, that I came across when trying to verify the TNG relaunch font.

Hm, totally forgot about those!
