Weight Loss Question

After four years of university, I put on roughly forty five pounds and to put it mildly, I look like I'm pregnant.

Are there any suggestions on how to slim up my figure?

I ask here instead of searching the Web as I'm looking for something that really works.

Thanks in advance!

The only way to lose bodyfat is to burn more calories than you consume. If that means eating less or exercising more (or both), that's up to you.

I can't really tell anything about diets, but I think it's crucial that you do sport on a regular basis. That, in combination with healthy food and a lot of patience, should help. To change eating habits alone isn't probably going to work, because the body gets used to the reduced energy balance and builds up adipose / fat again easily. Sport helps to avoid that.
I looked a bit around and these various kinds of sports are recommended, if one wants to loose weight:
riding a bicycle, hiking, jogging, swimming, dancing, aqua fitness, cross-country skiing

If you decide to go jogging it's best to go in the morning. Don't eat anything before you leave. That way the body burns more fat. Whatever sport you do, you should do it at least three times a week.

Maybe this helped you a little.

I want to start losing weight at least 2 stone before the end of the year if not a little more. Made a list of what foods are better than others and general facts on eating better. Am going to start with the simple stuff...

* Have Breakfast more often probably some ceral and fruit

* Lunch - try to have stuff like small portion of beans with toast no butter. Also I could just have a sandwich like Tuna or chicken hopefully with no mayo or little as. Also try and have fruit too so 2 out of 5 a day.

* Dinner - More meals containing a mixture of Pasta, Jacket Potatoes, Roast Potatoes, Fish like Cod, Tuna or Salmon. Meats like Chicken but cooked in non oil so no chip pan nuggets etc.

* Snack less inbetween meals though work on 5 fruits a day like Juice, Apple, Bannana, Grapes, Pears, Orange.

* Drink only water, water + Juice or fruit Juice (water 3 litres a day I read)

* 30 Mins of Exercise most days

Starting playing Tennis again this summer after a 2 year break but for colder months in winter and early spring try to take up biking. Have this exercise machine at home too which incudes timer/calories burnt up clock so that should help too and I could take dads dog for a walk too I guess sometimes.

No junk food diet should be fun

It depends how much you're willing to work at it. How much time are you willing to devote towards it a day?

Well just over 2-3 weeks ago when I last weighed myself I was 15 stone 13 Pounds and today I am 15 stone 7 pounds. A good start, started playing Tennis yesterday too after finally finding somewhere to play so can carry that on and trying to watch what I eat.

I want to be under 13 stone by the end of the year though my comfortable weight would be somewhere between 11/12 stone.

Walk to school or work. I used to have to walk an hour to school and then back and kept losing weight so I had to eat so much. It really puzzled me since I walked so slow but seems like you burn quite alot of energy? If you live too far, park somewhere or get off the train/bus early and walk. It makes you feel better too. I remember I used to enjoy my walks from school to home very much. I walked while munching on fruits, nuts and other snacks, and as I walked, the day's trouble also melted away. Good times.

By the way I think nuts is a "free-pass food". It's supposed to be so high in calorie but I eat like a thousand-calorie worth of it in addition to my normal meals everyday and it does nothing to my weight. Go figure. Maybe you can try it if you like to snack alot. :) But experiment first with maybe just 500 calories extra just in case it's not the same for you.

Nuts get a bad rap.

Eating a few handfuls of almonds gives you a lot of fiber and vitamin E and even though it has fat, it's monounsaturated...actually good for you and necessary for your body.

Rad! Well done.

You can probably expect the weightloss to slow down or even halt though. If you do the same thing for too long your body gets used to it and thinks that's how it should be rather trying to get rid of the fat.

Make sure you vary up your routine and diet every so often.

Oh, I agree. Nuts are actually very good for you.

1000 calories just seems like a LOT of nuts!

Hey, wait a minute, how did this turn from a canadaboy 32 to a Jax weight loss thread? And where is canadaboy 32?

I'm here!

The thread just seemed to die for so long, I didn't think there was anyone still interested.

But thank you everybody for the help!

Hi,

Make regular exercise a daily part of your life. Every single day doesn't have to include an intense workout, but try to at least workout intensely 3-4 days/week, and then at least get out and walk or ride a bike or something that involves movement almost every day.

Eat a clean healthy diet made up of natural unprocessed foods regularly, and make this a habit. Avoid even allowing yourself to buy junk or processed foods at all.

If you can, cut down on sugar. This is hard for me, as I have a sweet tooth and am a hopeless Starbucks consumer. Drink iced tea instead of sodas. Fruit juices aren't necessarily nutritious if they're artificially flavored. Avoid vending machines like the plague.
