Weekend Number 2 Box Office

ENT forum used to have a guessing game for the ratings (whatever happened to Volpone? haven't seen that dude around lately). Seems like we are having a box office guessing game here. My guess: a 50% drop, $37.6 million.

I think ST is going to have one of best summer 2nd week drop off rates (probably transformers will have best of summer season). I will take anything over $35 million as good sign Trek will make a close to or over $200 million domestic.

Honestly, I think it's already pretty much a lock for $200 million+. $200 million would only be a multiplier of what? 2.7? Movies that tend to have multipliers of 2.7 or worse are movies like Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3, where the word of mouth is mediocre at best. Seems likely that Trek will have a multiplier better than that.

Think it will come close to a Billion like Return of the King and Titanic?

This movie has assured one thing...

assuming we get similar WOM and fanbase support for the sequel we are looking at a huge summer hit, which will make this look average but not TDK numbers but still bigger than XI.

No. Those were powered by international numbers, which accounted for over 66% of the total worldwide gross. Trek will probably get 2/3rd of its money domestically and have a small international take.

If it is $12.25 million or thereabouts for Friday, then that would probably mean a total weekend take in the high 30s, or about a 50% drop from last weekend. That's more or less in line with what most people were expecting.

$12.25M Friday/ $39M weekend estimate he has is pretty good if it happens. Wolverine did $8.3M in its 2nd Friday.

Seems weird to me that both movies would be that low.

Well, both are appealing towards older audiences, especially A&D. Older people aren't rushing out Friday nights to watch movies...they'll go Saturday and Sunday. So a low Friday is to be expected for A&D.

As for Trek, this might be a sign that it is still leaning more towards older audiences.
