Weekend Number 2 Box Office

And this needed its own thread?

That number would be a pretty big disappointment btw and would signal to me Trek will not make over 180 Mil Domestic.

I'm guessing just short of forty million, which would be a humongous success. Thirty-five would be fine too, though. That would be less than a fifty percent drop and far from being a "disappointment" or cause for concern it would be very encouraging.

That's projecting a 46% drop, which is average for a film in it's 2nd week. And it will easily make over 180 million. 200 is in the bag at this point, the question is can it possibly make 300 million.

Besides I would not be suprised if this tops A&D .

I've been going over numbers around $35 million in my head all week and I keep coming up with $185-$195 minimum at the US Box Office. So far every prediction has been short either because Paramount has been so clever to undersell it to make the film look even better when it beats projections and also because this movie is more popular than people imagined.

People don't jump on the ship if we drop 50% so what we had a big opening and most likely we will have strng 3rd & 4th weeks no matter what drop off in the 2nd week and pull in a big big total come the end.

This movie is a success already lets enjoy the ride to the end...The ARTICLE is actually saying its a positive thing

There's amazing concensus that Paramount's No. 1 monster hit from last weekend, Star Trek, won't lose much momentum. It's put in some very solid numbers midweek. So this weekend it probably will be down only 45% for a $36M finish. (Though some think it could reach $40M because of the great word of mouth.)

Looks up at the sky--still there, whew.

The same article also says that Wolverine "still has legs", so I'd take it with a hefty grain of salt.

Just talked to a neighbor's kid my son's known for 8 years out walking our boxer, him walking their lab. So the dogs are playing and I chat a bit. Seen any good movies lately? Gonna see Star Trek tonight with a few friends.

That's legs.

I don't get the whiff of blockbuster from the A&D advertising. I get the whiff of desperation. WHen the most prominent quote being pushed in the ads says, esentially, "it's better than the first one," you've got trouble.

Trek FTW.

A&D is getting mediocre reviews, but the afterglow of the Da Vinci Code should be enough to push it to No. 1. But I expect Trek will have a solid 2nd weekend, and should continue to pull in good business for the next month.

You're not going to be happy unless it rakes in 50 mil in a day, are you?

I think they're saying Wolverine still has legs because its weekday drops have been dramatically smaller than X2's drops for the comparable time period. It's still only going to make $12 million or so this weekend.

Hey, is it just my math or is $38 million more than a 45% drop from $75 million. I think its like a 50% drop.

Well, the operative word for me was "still", because its knees sure buckled after week 1.

Anyway, I'm cautiously optimistic given everything I've read here and also from my real-life interactions with other people.

Come on Similitude, chin up! You're even worse than me, for crying out loud! ;)

I think ST is going to have one of best summer 2nd week drop off rates (probably transformers will have best of summer season). I will take anything over $35 million as good sign Trek will make a close to or over $200 million domestic.
