Weeds - The Canadian Connection

Maybe I noticed it because I watched all four seasons in less than two months, but is it just me or do references to Canada pop up quite frequently in Weeds? Does anyone know why this is?

I have never noticed, but I will hopefully get the first two seasons on DVD within the week. I have seen them all, but can't remember. My guess is the show is filmed in Canada so they add the little winking jokes.
