I am old enough to have actually seen the moon landing live. I was 11 years old and in grade 6 at school.

All the grades 3 through to 6 (8 classes in all, about 240 children) were gathered into the school's assembly hall to watch the event. As Neil Armstrong first stepped on the Moon we all cheered and clapped. It was one of the most exciting moments of my childhood.

Sadly one of my classmates had died suddenly about 3 weeks before the moonlanding. I remember thinking how she was so looking forward to seeing it. To this very day I often think of that friend when I see the Moon.

My best friend's little brother was alive when Apollo 11 launched but had drowned before the the Landing so she thinks of him when the Moon Landing is mentioned.

Geez, next Monday's probably gonna be a pretty depressing time, huh?

I think that my friend is feeling good about her little brother. After 40 years she has managed this year to rake up enough money to place a headstone on her brother's grave, something her family were too poor to do when he died.

A cable network did this real-time thing, IIRC, on the 20th anniversary. Anyway, I have the site on right now here at work :)

My mission coverage crapped out because they were "over capacity".

DAMMIT. If I only was at a place where I had such historical audio laying around...on shelves.

wow  those first few stages (and escape tower) dropped reaaaaly fast  (they did, of course, advance the clock)

Amazing isn't it?! I'm not sure why they didn't cover the first part with the footage they have, just to add a bit more reality to it.
