Who would you guys recommend for a good, stable, web host? This goes along with my file hosting thread... I'm very frustrated with the host I am with, and I am thinking of moving if they don't get me fixed ASAP.

Thanks guys...

Thanks! That was one that was coming up as a good one. I think i have everything working for the time being, but if it happens again, I will probably be moving. :)

My pleasure. If it's any help, I've had lunarpages for roughly six years now. I've only had one major issue of downtime (the server that hosted my site had a meltdown last fall) but the service interruption only lasted roughly a couple of days and they had everything back in order relatively quickly. What's best about them is that I always manage to get an actual human being on the phone when I call. I know how frustrating it can be to get a good host, but lunarpages has been about as reliable as I could have possible have hoped for. And my site does roughly 30gb of bandwidth per month.

Hi, are you interested in hosting images for forum usage? I use tinypic.com -- they're free and works quite well.

But if you're refering to website hosting for data files, I'd actually recommend using your own server at home, which with just a few hundred dollars, you can have it set up nicely and not even share space with anyone else -- totally within your control.

Lol. I have my own webhost too, but I wouldn't recommend them, if what you want is reliability. Lol.

Are you going to be using simple HTML and Javascript, or would you be using PHP or ASP.NET?

Are you looking with databases? If so which one, MySQL or MS Sql Server

I considered hosting my site early on but for $5 /month I get a space on a server in (almost) natural disaster free upstate New York in a facility with 24/7/365 IT staff, redundant OC-12 fiber and 1000 gallons of diesel on site for the backup generators.

I use HostGator and I am VERY satisfied!

I second a recommendation for HostGator. Between my company's websites and my clients' sites, I manage upwards of 50 HostGator accounts and have never had a reason to complain, nor have any of my clients.

I would say freehostia, I have had my site up for 1 year and have had 0% downtime. They are very good and offer a very high quality CP and free plan.

Another vote for Host Gator. I have two web servers with them and many of my clients host there. Good service and great prices.
