we will not get Khan, but a classic villain is inevitable

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral

here

Hm.
I wish they would open up the franchise. I wish they would explore new worlds. I wish they would use their imaginations.

I wish they would incorporate science fiction into the film, a sense of wonder.

I agree with you somewhat, however they have a chance to improve the "Classic Villains" in a Christopher Nolans "Batman" way...I'd personally like to see NuTrek attempt to redo the Borg, but how they were supposed to be (before the Borg Queen and VOY overuse) as a collective threat, perhaps like Skynet in the Terminator series

The NuTrek Borg would look considerably cooler

NuTrek Borg might be good if they're really different from the ones we already have.

And as always, NO KHAN.

:D

If this is to be believed (which I highly doubt), my pick would be Trelane (one of my favorite episodes) or the Talosians. Ideally, I'd like to see something new and fresh to go with the reboot vs. remake aspect this version of Trek is supposed to be.

And for the love of god, no Horta. That was one of the worse parts of that episode. I don't need to see Spock mind melding with a Horta again. Ever.

Personally I'd like to see the Gorn I never understood why they weren't use (besides Enterprise). I guess budgetary reasons.

I would love to get Trelane but, if giving Trek a Batman - ala Nolan - sense of realism was the goal then I cannot see Trelane making the grade.

Remember my Does "Realistic" Trek Mean No 'Throbbing Brains' Allowed? thread, most respondents thought NuTrek would go the realistic route over any 'god' like aliens. Has your ideas changed, should omnipotent beings be left on the table?

On the side. If the movie comes out with omnipotent beings in it, I will send it back.

I demand that the villain have lots of gabagool.

The only thing I don't want to see is more relationship mumbo-jumbo with Spock and Uhura

I'm sure many people have commented on it before, I can deal with it being in the background, but using it as a major storyline...no way, its just too Un-Spock (even though this is NuTrek) Part of the reason the character of Spock is so brilliant, is his struggle between his Human and Vulcan sides, subtle hints of humanity were rife in TOS and this is what made him arguably the most popular character. It made be hard for new fans to grasp and Alien character that struggles with his two sides, but its certainly not hard when you have an excellent actor such as Zachary Quinto portraying Spock, he is the natural successor to Leonard Nimoy for the character...Anyway back on topic

I think if they were to effectively pull off having Harry Mudd in the film, they would have to refine his personality, what we know from Harry Mudd is that he is a Conman, a Swindler and pretty much Anti-Federation, if you want to dampen the comic side, you would need to make him highly intelligent, albeit with questionable mental stability, which in Mudd's case would just not work...As for Gary Mitcell, to me, this is the most interesting idea, however with his lack of appearance in the first film, it doesn't seem likely, unless of course in the Nutrek Universe, Gary is a childhood friend of Kirk's who went rogue and became a terrorist, similar to Calvin Hudson in DS9...Then again in TOS Kirk is a few years older than Mitchell so they couldn't have been childhood friends

The Talosians are probably the best bet...Still I do not think that its very likely that anything in the authors story is entirely correct, similar to how we were told that in XI Spock would use the GOF to travel back in time chasing Nero to prevent him from destroying Kirk and his younger self

I think it would be awesome if the NuBorg were to assimilate Gary Mitchell and use him a'la Picard in BOBW

The movie will have a focus on character and relationship stuff - like Spock/Uhura - specific to this version of the Franchise, because that's how successful movies of this kind are written. Reliance on the generic "known characteristics" of Kirk, Spock and McCoy provides no point of entry into the stories for the newer audience.

I think Khan is just too big of a character to rework. He has such a place in Trek lore and who would want to try to live up to Ricardo Montalban?

No one wants a machine threat? I was thinking a NuTake on the Doomsday machine. Kirk & Scott stranded on the Constellation. Spock & Co refuse to follow Decker so he has green Red shirts relieve them. While Decker recklessly attacks, Kirk finds ways to save them from a crippled Constellation. Spock & Co find a way to retake the ship. Not sure how they can come up with a Nu twist for Decker to redeem himself and provide a solution to stopping the machine.

They could do it. Besides, is he bigger then Kirk, Spock, everyone else, and the Enterprise were to re-work?

On a different note, I'm in Alliston. Good to see a fellow Trek BBS'r so freakin' close!

You're on the right track. The way to bring the Borg into Trek again:

1) They are unstoppable. Starfleet can beat them on rare occasions, and only due to dumb luck. This means you can't afford to overuse them.

2) Assimilation is permanent, NO exceptions. No means NO! :rommie: If the writers cannot maintain this degree of discipline, don't bring back the Borg at all.

3) Let the Borg permanently assimilate some beloved character. McCoy or Chekov would be the right level of gut-punch but probably be too radical. Gary Mitchell might not be high-profile enough. How about Pike?

Or Khan. Who's up for Borg Khan? :rommie:

If they can get the Borg in AbramsTrek, that'd be cool. Actually, the Borg in any Trek incarnation is cool with me.

How about the Kelvans for an extra-galactic threat?

Doomsday machine would be cool as well.

Not rocking the Borg thing this early in the franchise.. maybe for #4 or #5.
