We need a special site for pictures of new species and other things?

Yevetha

Commodore
It would be great.

Some trivia:characters, historical background, pictures, new ship classes.

We already had some fans doing that for the Stargazer series.

Re: We need a special site for pictures of new species and other thing

I have a big hand-made poster here featuring almost every species in the Alpha, Beta and Gamma quadrants, including book-only races. I wish I could share it, but I don't have a scanner and it's laminated anyway. Sadly, it was complete before the Tzenkethi were fully described, so they didn't make it. The last book originals to fit in were the Isitri and the Odib from Troublesome Minds, who squeezed into the last available place. The Odib's beard is all over the Isitri...

Does it have a description of the Elabrej with pictures and notable individuals?

Unless a new alien ST race or individual is on a book cover, an IDW comic, computer game, or is a commissioned artwork beside an extract in "Star Trek Magazine", no picture is going to exist. Sure, fans could draw new aliens and upload to a website, but sometimes novel descriptions can stir up your own imagination and you'll possibly be disappointed by the renditions of others.

I was so disappointed seeing detailed drawings of Hobbits after reading Tolkien and creating Hobbits in my own head.

Re: We need a special site for pictures of new species and other thing

I occasionally pop into the Fan Art room to look for items exactly such as this, but it's always all ships. Blah.

The last good selection I remember is Geoff Thorne's illustrations of Star Trek: Titan characters. As Therin wisely points out, not everyone agreed on how they should look considering they were lit-only species, but many of them were excellent.

Can't you take a couple of photos? I've been wanting to see this since you last mentioned it!

Re: We need a special site for pictures of new species and other thing

it's called Memory Beta.
Agreed. This is exactly what Memory Beta is for, we just need people to add more information. But, I don't think we allow unofficial images.

I don't know what the current policy is, I've not been active there for a while, but they certainly used to have a "supplemental images" system to add illustrations of things there isn't anything official for yet. Some of the author illustrations are dotted about there, and a few user created ones too.

So yeah, Memory Beta is the place you want, and if you dont find it there, add it :)

Re: We need a special site for pictures of new species and other thing

Who are the Elabrej?

Re: We need a special site for pictures of new species and other thing

They're the Jerbale, spelt backwards.

:)

Re: We need a special site for pictures of new species and other thing

they're an adversary race appearing in IKS Gorkon #3 Enemy Territory. A hideous multi-limbed race with no heads whom the Klingons find repellent. they've poisoned their world with industrial pollution so the Klingons don't bother conquering them.

and they're pretty minor. they're not even D-list.

Re: We need a special site for pictures of new species and other thing

It's the difference between Angelina Jolie and that nameless nobody on whatever cheapo SyFy channel movie you're watching.

Actually, I believe that was Michael Jan Friedman (the author) himself. It seems that the website has gone offline, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit.

I recall it being a bit like annotations with illustrations; IIRC, MJF is a pretty talented artist and so he drew out how he himself had envisioned the characters that were never depicted on-screen, like Simenon and Ben Zoma and the Asmund sisters.

I agree that more websites like that would be great. I appreciate having a visual image of what the author intended; I find it very hard to mentally visualize these sorts of things from descriptions (with some exceptions).

Wrong Michael. The Stargazer website and its illustrations were Michael Schuster's doing.

Ah, mea culpa. Did the two Michael's discuss the material for the website? Like, did MJF provide suggestions and MS flesh it out?

Re: We need a special site for pictures of new species and other thing

Maybe Schuster could do the illustrations.
