Spoken like a casting agent. But when Danny Craig got the go-ahead on Bond, his blond hair wasn't a factor for me. What amused me was that Paul Newman's murderous foul-mouthed ''son'' had snagged one of the most famous male British film roles ever. Still, I imagine MUNICH was a major factor in Craig's CASINO casting.
And, when Downey was cast as IRON MAN, all I could think at that time was ''my least favorite film actor is now playing my most favorite Marvel character.'' My brother wanted Charlie Sheen.
I recently read an interview with Barbara B in which she said that she’d had her eye on him since his turn as an assassin in Elizabeth, the movie about Elizabeth I. Which doesn’t disprove your point, of course, but he’d been on her radar well before then. Ironically, most Bond speculation circa 2003-2004 was on his Munich Co-star Eric Bana.
Hmmm. Like Jack Benny once said about TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, ''I don't remember that one. I've got to watch more television.''
While there's definitely something to that — even though it's been almost 20 years since Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and 15 years since the first Twilight movie, Pattinson doesn't look a whole lot older now, even with the beard he has sometimes. Whereas Clooney was already starting to gray during his time on ER.
I mentioned this in the last Bond movie thread...Wilson and Broccoli have been creatively spent for a number of years, but their egos just won't let them relinquish the reigns to anyone else who would definitely rejuvenate the series. they tried aping the Bourne series, and that didn't help... New blood is needed
And in a move that seems designed to annoy a lot of Bond fans, supposedly Daisy May Cooper is apparently being tapped to play M. (apologies for the Daily Heil link). I really can't see DMC as M unless the idea is for M to suddenly be some kind of bumbling, over promoted fool, but I do think she is a good actress and in fact a great writer* so I wonder if there's a Phoebe Waller Bridge scripting element to this and that the press are on the right track but going down the wrong road? (*if you haven't seen 'Am I being Unreasonable' you should check it out) I think it's also worth noting that she's an actress, which means she can, you know, act differently in different things. It also amuses me that so many on Twitter are up in arms over the potential hiring of a sitcom star to be M, neatly forgetting that come Goldeneye Judi Dench was perhaps most famous to most Brits for A Fine Romance and As Time Goes By. Also it's funny to see all the usual suspects who've been banging on for ages that Bond needs to return to being light hearted appalled when the possibility of someone who can play light and funny being cast is mooted I also think this is likely to be nothing but a BS nothing story anyway.
I've never actually heard of Daisy May Cooper, but after a Google search, my thoughts are, isn't she a bit young to be M?
Judi Dench being retained between Brosnan and Craig notwithstanding, I think it’s unlikely that M will be cast before Bond. Surely their chemistry, the nature of the dynamic between them etc. will all have to be determined? How can they do that with no idea of who Bond is? I know that Ms have often carried over between Bonds but this is a whole new reimagining and I find this hard to believe, even leaving aside the newspaper in question and the actor’s previous roles.
I mean she's 36 now and even though Bond #26 is some time away she's unlikely to be 40 by then so it does feel quite young. Then again Andrew Scott was a similar age in Spectre when he was C and C was more senior to M so never rule out a high flyer. That said I don't think any M has been under 50 (I think Fiennes was round 50 when he first appeared.)
I think there's four options here. 1. It's 100% true 2. It's partially true, Eon have had talks with Cooper but it isn't remotely to do with M (As I say maybe they're considering her as one of several people to have input into the script PWB style) 3. 100% bullshit and the journos just threw a dart at a list of celeb names on the wall and came up with DMC 4. It's intentional misdirection by Eon to flush out someone who's leaking info to the press. I'm hovering between 2 and 3. If it was 4 I'd think they'd come up with someone more plausible, though I kinda hope this is true. The idea of a company that makes spy films conducting a false flag operation is delicious.
