"We are the World" Remake?

I grew up in the 1980s, and I will never forget this song (originally performed by USA for Africa, a group of recording artists who wanted to help with the famine relief in one of the African countries). I don't know if I liked the melody more than the positive message of hope and compassion it was promoting at the time. Now there's word of a remake in the works; I'm assuming it's for the earthquake victims in Haiti. This is going to be interesting if it really happens.

From the Wikipedia We Are the World section on Remake:

It will feature production by popular producers RedOne and Will.i.am. Some of the artists in the 81-member choir are Pink, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Nick Jonas, LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, Celine Dion, Akon, Rob Thomas, Wyclef Jean, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Barbra Streisand, Jordin Sparks, Good Charlotte's Madden brothers, Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, Tyrese, Katharine McPhee, Sean Garrett, Will.i.am, Brandy, Carlos Santana, Melanie Fiona, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, Jason Mraz, Miley Cyrus, Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger, Nicole Richie, Usher, Julianne Hough, Raphael Saadiq, Zac Brown Band, India.Arie, Randy Jackson, Musiq Soulchild, Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson, Fonzworth Bentley, Kid Cudi, Iyaz, Bizzy Bone, Nipsey Hussle, the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, Trey Songz, Faith Evans, Mya and Gladys Knight. [79] Other artists will be confirmed in an official press release.

There is no way the new one can compare. Why didn't Quincy just write a new song? How can you take this song seriously when you have Snoop Dogg, and Miley Cyruss on the same stage?

If "Do They Know It's Christmas?" can be pulled off the shelf every few years and rerecorded, why not "We Are The World"?

I read an article last night. The re-recording wasn't originally meant to be a relief effort for Haiti, but rather to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original recording.

The anniversary project had been quietly planned for months and was scheduled for the day after the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards to maximize celebrity availability. The plan veered sharply, though, after the Jan. 12 temblor in Haiti: Instead of more relief for Africa, the organizers switched gears and turned their cause to the Caribbean.

Such a noble cause, such a shitty song.

One of those in the 80's, I'd turn the dial to escape.

I Agree

God I hope they don't let Miley Cyrus do one of the solo's in it.

At least they wont have Boy george and some of those other 80's shitty singers

Vince Vaughn?

They had Dan Ackroyd in 1985. People are still scratching their heads about that.
That was probably from his "singing" on from the Blues Brothers

Well one group song they'll never remake is "Voice That Care," which had among the chorus -- Brian Bosworth, Don King, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Gary Busey and... The Shat!

As long as Vaughn wears horn rimmed glasses and looks really uncomfortable in the video I'm down with it.

I was 16 in 1985 and loved all of the original artists in that song, so I'll always be partial to the original.
It looks like the autotune is gonna be working overtime on this one...

Why Dan Aykroyd in 1985? To lighten things up in the studio, they say.

Singer John Denver, co-founder of The Hunger Project (a charitable non-profit organization) wanted to be a part of the recording, but he was turned down. He was apparently not "cool" enough.
