"We are the World" Remake?

I grew up in the 1980s, and I will never forget this song (originally performed by USA for Africa, a group of recording artists who wanted to help with the famine relief in one of the African countries). I don't know if I liked the melody more than the positive message of hope and compassion it was promoting at the time. Now there's word of a remake in the works; I'm assuming it's for the earthquake victims in Haiti. This is going to be interesting if it really happens.

I read an article last night. The re-recording wasn't originally meant to be a relief effort for Haiti, but rather to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original recording.

The anniversary project had been quietly planned for months and was scheduled for the day after the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards to maximize celebrity availability. The plan veered sharply, though, after the Jan. 12 temblor in Haiti: Instead of more relief for Africa, the organizers switched gears and turned their cause to the Caribbean.

As long as Vaughn wears horn rimmed glasses and looks really uncomfortable in the video I'm down with it.

I was 16 in 1985 and loved all of the original artists in that song, so I'll always be partial to the original.

Why Dan Aykroyd in 1985? To lighten things up in the studio, they say.

Singer John Denver, co-founder of The Hunger Project (a charitable non-profit organization) wanted to be a part of the recording, but he was turned down. He was apparently not "cool" enough.
