WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

A more relevant comparison is to whatever bvs and ss got. Bvs got a B while ss got an a-...

BvS B
SS B+

Also for comparison's sake:

Thor 2 A-
Iron Man 2 A
Amazing Spiderman 2 B+
Elektra B
Catwoman B
Eta: Fant4stic (most hated superhero movie ever?) C+ Batman and Robin, too.

Has this site ever given anything below a c?

I think 2 movies have gotten Fs. Mother is one of them. Don't quote me though - too lazy for research right now.

EDIT - screw it did research. 19 movies got Fs. Mother is one of them.

Some of these movies aren't even full on terrible... Solaris????

I find Marvel films to be compelling, interesting, enjoyable, and memorable.
DC won't ever be "like Marvel" but I would be happy if they found some combination that wasn't annoying or boring.
Wonder Woman was good.

Yes. People vote on what they like, not what they ought to like.

From the sound of it, it seems like people vote that they like almost everything - unless the trailers made it sound like something very different than what it turned out to be (or if it was a pre-2000s horror movie, apparently).

Kind of makes you wish companies would take that knowledge and, I don't know, actually pay attention to it. Unfortunate that films which actually might mean something to people wind up taking the backlash for studios' complete lack of interest in the fact that bait and switch pisses people off.

I'm kind of baffled by the attitudes I'm seeing from people about movies. I understand people have different opinions on movies, and usually I can at least see where the people who don't like them are coming from, but I really, really don't get it. I don't think I have ever consistently enjoyed a single series with so many movies as I have the MCU.
Same here. I honestly feel like films exist to be torn apart for entertainment purposes, instead of being entertainment in of themselves.

Well, looks like the internet has taken over the narrative that JL is irredeemably awful, with stupid jokes and memes popping up everywhere. This is game over for both the movie having legs, and its legacy.

Well that escalated quickly...

I gave it a B. Went in with low expectations, which always helps, but overall it was a pretty solid piece of entertainment. Nothing new, really, but some great set pieces, good interplay between the characters and decent performances. If Affleck does quit after this, I’ll be sorry to see him go but at least he had a decent swansong.

Some of the CGI was ropey as hell - you do have to wonder how it was allowed to get by in movie of this standing.

As I said in the review thread, if you’re on the fence about going, I would say you should go but if you’ve given up on the DCEU, this film is unlikely to change your mind.

It's going to be probably another slaughter next year, given how all DCEU has for 2018 is Aquaman against everything MCU and Fox (its last stuff) and Sony is releasing.

It seems like WB has damaged its brand recognition, even saying "It's got Batman and Superman!" isn't enough to draw audiences anymore.

DC are truly fortunate that Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are so fantastically high profile and burned into the public consciousness - it's made them bullet proof to some extent. If Marvel had been this inept with what was, after all, their second and third string characters they'd never have reached The Avengers movie.
It looks like DC may not be quite as bullet proof as I thought.................It'll still do the kind of business most movies would kill for, but factoring in how much it cost and it's promotional budget...

Yes, it does appear that there is a limit to the recognition and goodwill that it brings for even ionic characters.

If they're going to make this work, they need to rethink and retool, and quickly too if they intend to continue in production.

Maybe it would be better if they took a pause and used the time to get it right.

The fucking internet will be on to something else next Tuesday, like pillorying whoever is the latest celebrity Thing, for being a celebrity Thing.

Except it did NOT say Superman...other than the logo in what is actually an awesome tagline, so never even see the logo in any of the trailers...I mean is it REALLY a spoiler that Superman lives????

In my opinion, WB has sabotaged all the good stuff in the D.C. F U with the complaints that get magnified.

And a huge part is entrusting what should be the most accessible character to a guy who focuses on over 18 films...it would have been great for Batman by himself or Suicide Squad...but not for anything Superman related
